In the US one of the hallmarks of domestic terrorist groups is dropped bag explosives. There has been many cases where this is the delivery method and a huge majority of them have been tied back to domestic terrorist groups, often associated with right wing/libertarian political movements.

Islamic militant groups prefer a harder psychological aspect of suicide bombers, or bigger devices, car bombs, etc. They like to put a human element to the attack, a person, a car, something that instills fear of every day objects.

Since a lot of the reports are saying there were suspicious bags left at the scene and unless the two dead happen to be the bombers everything so far from what the media is already pointing out makes it seem like a domestic terrorist attack.

If anything, this was an attack orchestrated by the US government, itself, in order to garner support for another invasion. The Joint Chiefs of Staff are currently throwing darts at a bulletin board littered with miscellaneous, unstable nations for us to pin it on in the resulting rush of patriotism.

Its also possible that this was an act committed by one or more seriously mentally flawed individuals that didn't fit into any known stereotype of social label that we love to throw around these days......

Regardless of who did it, it doesn't make it any less or more heinous of an act.

Just saying the evidence points to domestic groups so far, at least from the style of the attack. Since almost all domestic terrorist actions in the last 30 years are right wing associated, its not that hard to make the jump to libertarian related political ideals. They are anti-social radicals determined to undermine the fabric of modern society (honestly I feel we should be more scared of libertarianism rising in the US than external threats like radical islam).

Different context. Most IEDs (which is a stupid term in my opinion) are used against military targets. One, they are more often tactically minded in their employment, two surprise is crucial since the targets are obvious and aware that they are targets.
