Possibly not the bet way to do this, but this is what I got :
F:\Full CDs
F:\Maxis & Vinyls
F:\Singles (here I have A, B...Z folders)
G:\Mixed CDs
G:\Live Sets

Don't have much of mp3s, but sometimes I got confused while trying to find something... Now I have this system - works for me

Organizing MP3z

D:\Trance\Artist - Title(+date/live/location if applicable).mp3

Note: I rename all files to that format, picky about caps, spacing and proper "dash (-)" positioning and especially proper ID3 Tagging.
20GB and still going...

Come On Folks lets keep it neat and simple

I use the View, in the window (XP) options and select -Details
What do ya geT? A vertical list of files, with Id3 Tag Info on the right side....scrolling all the way down! Beautiful isnt it?

with 4 hard drives and a laptop and 350GBs of space and another 800 CDs burned, you sort of um, just lose track

i just pop in random cds from time to time and hey, there's always something good on them

edit: actually i download so much, i rarely get to pop those cds in. i just listen to whatever is on my hard drive. once it gets burned, it rarely gets heard again. sad, but THEY SHOULD STOP MAKING SO MUCH GOD DAMN GOOD MUSIC!!!

classic shit i just keep on my hard drive

I actually fixed it all up again. Here's how I do all now: In C:\, there's a folder called "Admin". In Admin, there's a folder called "Audio". In Audio, there's "Electronic" for all Electronic music (including Ambient BUT NOT Steve Roach, Vidna Obmana, Robert Rich, etc. (Things u find in New Age dept. in music stores)). In Electronic, there are 3 folders: Albums, Live Bootlegs, and Singles.

OK, I'll break it down for the Albums folder first: For each artist, there's a folder for each artist's material (e.g. C:\Admin\Audio\Electronic\Audio\Albums\Chicane). Inside each artist's folder, there are more folders. Each are named after the album's titles. Inside these folders there are either tracks (in this format: 01 - Title), single album-length files + CUE files (in this format: Artist - Album), or folders named after CD numbers (like CD 1, CD 2, etc.). In the case of folders named after CD numbers, if I have album-length files in them, the format goes like this: Artist - Album title - CD 1. Examples of a typical file name (including full path): C:\Admin\Audio\Electronic\Albums\TV Victor\Timeless Decceleration\CD 2\01 - All.mp3. I hope this didn't confuse you too much. I'll get into Various Artists CDs a little later because that's a bigger mess.

Now, the Live Bootlegs folder. I just have a lot of files in here but, there all in a certain format that allows it to all be in a single folder: Format for most live sets: Artist - YYYY-MM-DD - Live at [event name]. Format for series (like the A State Of Trance Episodes): Series name - Episode 01 - Artist (number may become 001 if there are more than 100). Example of a typical file name (including full path): C:\Admin\Audio\Electronic\Live Bootlegs\Paul van Dyk - 2000-04-30 - Live at Mayday. I do it like this because the files fall into Alphabetical AND chronological order at the same time!

Singles is the easiest folder: Just a bunch of tracks (and soon Winamp Playlist files) in this format: Artist - Title.

The reason for such a method of organisation (especially for the Albums and Live Bootlegs folders) is because it makes everything EASY to find. I do everything from big to small or decending order (like my dates: 1999-12-31 for the 31st of December, 1999). If you organise your stuff like this, you'd be surprised at how easy it is to navigate, because everything's ORGANISED.
C ya later...

You can make it a tad easier if u use my method here. First, the Singles folder does NEED seperate folders with A, B, C, etc. 2nd, the Full CDs and Mixed CDs can be an "Albums" folder (and if u actually read my new post, you'll see that it all works well).

g:\singles\Tiësto\
g:\Livesets\Armin van Buuren\

With confucing filenames like Armin van Buuren - Live at Club Eau, the Hague [20-04 2002].mp3

Finally i managed to make some sort of system in it... i moved alle my music to a folder called: g:\music

and renamed all my music to 1.mp3 2.mp3 3.mp3 4.mp3.... it took a long time but it was worth it.. no more confusion when i'm looking for a track.

I don't understand your last 3 sentences. Can you show an example of an actual track?

g:\musik\1.mp3

Then i have a playlist.txt file, with all the track names, so i can see what i'm listening to.

looks like this:
1.mp3 = Armin van Buuren Live at Club Eau 20-04 2002
2.mp3 = Rank 1 - Airwave (Original Mix)
3.mp3 = Armin van Buuren - Communication (Vincent De Moor Remix)

and so on...

So if i listen to 56.mp3 and i think it's awesome all i have to do is open my playlist.txt and see who the artist is and the tracks name
