Same with my Uno. The police said it's commonly stolen because it's incredibly easy to break into it. They just figured they'd take it once it was open, in my case.

An Uno is a popular card to steal for parts. When me an my friends got our first cars (all utter pieces of shit) a couple had fiats, and they got most of their parts from erm, "questionable places". It was rife, and that was in London - I can only imagine what it's like in Brazil or South Africa.
That same first car (golf Mk1) crapped out on me within 18 months and as I didn't want to pay the fees to scrap it, I left near my house, next to a small park and within two weeks someone liberated it. The car was older than me and still got nicked in a very short amount of time.
