Good choice of tunes tho will give a full review soon. |
Check your headphones. Nothing is wrong with the sound quality. And i disagree about the choice of tunes, it could be better.
I might say Jack, every time i come across with a new mix from you i always expect really good stuff. This wasn't the case of your best work but far from be a bad mix too. Maybe because i'm slightly bored by Progressive right now or because i was familiar with most of these tracks.
I like the first 2 tracks, you really mixed them very well, sounding almost like a single track. Groovy and driven start to put my ass to dance and to grab my attention for what's yet to come. Unfortunately, the sequence of tracks had ups and downs in terms of quality. Obviously it's a matter of taste, but to me, Indifference is a bit generic and i don't like Memento, however i must say, the flow is really good. I mean, REALLY good, the transitions are fantastic.
Now it comes the best part of this mix: from Tyra to Chemical Illusion this mix shines. Fantastic vibes, just sick. Really fucking good selection. Nothing to say, you nailed it. I felt that This Is Where sounded weak (again a matter of taste) but kept the flow and Silky Dirty was a good bridge for the last 3 tracks.
The final part of this mix is really nice. Loved the last transition, the way that Projection starts. I would have killed someone on the dancefloor . Overall a good mix...but could be better.

What are you on about?
I've listened to this four or five times now, and truly dig it. Great listening while driving through the parched mountain passes of southern Oregon on my way to my vacation.
As Matt said, very twinkly stuff, which I love. While I recognize a number of the artists, I didn't actually know any of the songs, which is always nice. Not too sure what is what, I'll go check them out when I'm not on vacation, but I especially loved the opening track, whatever is playing at 23 minutes, 29 minutes, 63 minutes, 70 minutes, and the last track.
I thought the programming was excellent, as well. Slow build up, then big release. I don't see the problem with the breakdown at 64, either, as I felt it was a welcomed little respite in the second half.
Great stuff, Jack

I listened to this about three times now and most of the tracks I've heard before and really didn't care much for, but in the mix context make more sense. It starts out surprisingly twinkly but didn't last long. The first two tracks sound like one, they really went well together, very seamless, as was all the mixing but particularly the phrasing which really helps move the set along. Progressive practically mixes itself but can really tell you chose critical cue points to help give the set momentum and harmonic mixing. The earlier part of the mix is very propulsive and Memento is where I consider the tipping point on the brightside of the mix and slowly devles into the darker side. I really liked the transitions between Indifference (Secondskin Remix) and Hold On as well as the one into Memento.
The second half of the mix is probably my favorite and just seems to chug along nicely for me. That whole chunk from Chemical Illusion to Projection was silk. In my opinion the mix seemed to go from a light to dark concept and I liked it, where it's usually the other way. I was pretty excited to see Memento and Chronosphere in the tracklist but I knew I was going to find some nice music I haven't heard before, which is usually the case with your mixes. The highlights for me were Hold On, This Is Where and See You, those became instant favorites for me.After multiple listens, virtually every tracks is used efficiently but Renumerate didn't fit, felt like it should have been somewhere before Memento.
Other transitions I like were Chemical Illusion into This Is Where, those basslines melt right into each other, probably the most seamless transition of the mix in my opinion and See You into Projection was a nice cut. Is it just me or did See You have to much bass coming in out of Chronosphere? It felt congested at first but I realize both tracks are pretty heavy.
All in all, a solid mix and look forward to more. This is most likely staying of ipod getting more listens.
