You take the term educate like people think of themselves as fucking instructors and yea that would be pretty narcissistic, when I say educate its like I have been at clubs and heard all the same shit then the dj will drop a track that maybe is completely out of my genre preference or not, and I will fucking love it and look for the song when I get home and find similar artist or other work by that artist. The first time I heard trance or house it was during dj sets and it opened me up to this whole world, so in a way it educated me, thats what i mean by saying that. The people in my town that like "EDM" dont even know who tiesto is so why not try and give them a taste of it? You make it sound like a dj cant even have a type of music he likes and if thats fact then whats the point of even having djs, why not get a stupid digital jukebox like the bars? Of course you have to play to the crowd but your add your flavor and spin on it.

you could incorperate Trance/Prog Trance with Dub/Trap. The Prog or the trap or dub needs to be either slowed down or sped up but it could be done.

Yeah it can be frustrating. Playing to a crowd that doesn't love the music you do - who, maybe, hasn't had that aha moment that you did that introduced you to a whole new genre of music. There's a number of things you could do:

1. Just play what they want and keep them happy. This will probably make you miserable and you'll start to hate DJing.

2. Find some common ground. If your taste is broad enough, play music in the space where your taste and their taste overlaps. Find some really cool remixes of top 40 songs that you won't cringe at. Toolroom Records releases a lot of great mixes of well-known songs. Drop in something different occasionally to test the crowd - this is where experience helps a lot.

3. Start your own trance night. Find people in your area with similar taste - use message boards like this. Get them to spread the word among their trance buddies. Start small with a one-off and go from there.

[i][b]Unless you are playing in a gay club. Then the music really doesn't matter. i mean stereo plays that house that sounds like an 8 hour track and they just dance like happy gay gorillas knowing that in 4 hours, they are going to have a crazy meth fuelled sex party. I go for the fruit platters.

HA! So true! Gays have the worst taste in dance music.

i dont see the problem with music that sounds the same for 8 hours straight. actually i like that. puts me into a trance. yes i said it, trance as a description of a state of mind rather than a cheezy fucked up genre of rainbows farts and starships.
