Karma, you're doing it wrong.

You think being homeless and hungry is just a simple question teaching them to live? You sound like someone that has never witnessed or experienced being given a shitty hand. You might have autism or just be a giant prick because your lack of empathy makes me cringe.

pretty sure it is palm. He posts in the production forum and used to change his name every week but somehow i seem to just know it is palm. But palm is from some socialist country that ripped me off on ebay, can't remember but I am pretty sure he is Norwegian which makes his whole Ayan Rand babble a little weird.

No, I think he actually has a good point, I just don't think he was articulating it before. But so far as I know, charities don't hand out debit cards to homeless people.

There's a really excellent foundation in NY called The Doe Fund:

http://www.doe.org/

They basically give people apartments and education, and set them up with jobs to pay for them. They get people back on their feet with the dignity to keep doing so, and their regression rate is tremendously low for this sort of thing.

Your rationale just stems from selfishness. It's easy to say "do it yourself" but that's why the world is the way it is. We're all human beings and I think we should have each others backs. Competitiveness can be healthy but it usually leads to a really ugly place.

I get that me sending money to North Korea to feed the peasants doesn't help their situation, regardless of any good feelings it brings me.

BUT

If I see someone at the shop or cafe who is like $0.10 short and I give them some small change, even if I'm doing it because I want to be a good person, I don't think that should "bring bad karma" upon myself. Maybe it is not a wholly unselfish act but I wouldn't say it is bad.

edit: and if it does, it usually comes in the form of them being awkward about it

People who genuinely feel better about themselves by giving to others consider it money well spent. And why shouldn't they? There is mounting evidence that people get an irreplaceable high from charity. As social animals, we are generally wired to seek such gratification, even if it is sometimes a hollow gesture and a hypocritical culture has cropped up in its vapour.

One time I was withdrawing cash from an ATM to go see my ATF ho, and there was an elderly homeless woman nearby. I gave her 20 bux out of my ho money, and gave the ho 20 less.
