lol no

it's just a matter of if you know how to handle the races

if you cant micro and macro, no need beeing terran in bw vs a toss that got skills

same goes around, if you cant micro with toss, no need playing a terran that got skills

it's just a matter of playing someone at your own level

back to topic, all other matchupes are also better balanced in bw than in sc

for instance, in sc, z vs t is almost impossible if the terran is good and know what to do.. etc etc

bw > sc imo
heh

pat: pm me if you want to play a bw game when you get home hehe

i might consider installing it again for this one time (even though i sweared that i would never play that game again when i stopped playing a year ago hehe)

greets!

Well you're entitled to your opinion. But when I played as Arkons I finished top 15 in SC season II and did not feel there was any imbalance at the highest level of play (Terrans were the least popular, but frequently the most deadly as well). In season III , I played as :+:BongHit:+: and did quite well again.

I also finished 24th in Brood War season I - in which I played protoss (I had primarily been a zerg player in SC). I can say that for the duration of that entire season, I did not lose to a terran player once. No game against a terran player even exceeded 30 minutes. And a lot of people I knew had issues with the balance.

So, I am not exactly pulling this out of thin air - my perception of the game's balance is based on probably more than 10,000 games of SC/BW. Of course, it could be that the strategies that top players happened to be using were particularly effective against Terran, and that counterstrategies existed but were not found by many people, but what I said previously seems to be the general consensus of most of the top players while I played - though some of them would have instead argued: terran>zerg>protoss>terran imbalance, which was a popular theory but when I played as zerg I never saw particular difficulties against terran, nor did I have problems as protoss against zerg...

That's the way to do it man. Yeah I got really good at the game and won some cash in some tournaments, but it really decimated my social life for almost 3 years. In retrospect, I don't think it was worth it, which is why I have decided not to pursue a professional Warcraft III career.

seem to have been thinking of the same thing hehe

i played the game for almost three years, leaving me within the top15-top20 in norway, but.. it wasnt worth it (just a huge waste of time i guess hehe)

about ur bw playing, it's hard to believe that you have played a good terran, if you never lost to one, and the games never exceeded 30 min..

If you had for example played either, NTT, Maynard, Slayer, SkeViHuE, Norts,++++++++++ i can guarantee you that you would have lost 7 out of 10 games in PvT - those had real terran skills when i was playing

or, if you had tried to play on other servers than US EAST/WEST (i assume you played the ladder there), i also think you would have met better opponents.
GameI and Gamebugs.net -> the best peeps at the time were playing there. from Slayer`Boxer` (or how the f*** you write it) & Yell0w to [nC].. & [pG] members

anyways, that was the past heh
what's done is done

nice to see that you had skills, finishing high in the ladder (personally i never managed to play in ladder speed, as it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay tooooooooooooooo slow for me)

pat: as i said, its been over a year since the last time i played the game, i dont think i even got 50% of the "skills" i used to have way back in time.
if i was going to play a game now, it would have been for fun, as you say you are. fun > everything when it comes to computer games.

anyways, let me know if you want try a game

You're right to an extent. I lost some games to terran players in BW - just not ladder games in season I. I played a lot of casual games with really good players and sometimes I just got owned either way. I did beat Maynard all three times I played him, though, even though he was only terran in one game. The imbalance is not a severe one, I'll readily admit. The main thing that turned me off of BW was the increased emphasis on detection, and the resulting perpetuation of "cheese-style" strategies.

Back when I played competitively, btw, the servers hadn't been divided yet, so all the europeans and asians played on the same server (well not physically the same server but you could play against them because they were connected).

I think the main reason I had so much success against Terran players in PvT was that I didn't use the same PvT strat most other top players were using at the time (namely, dragoon rush followed up with disruption web), but instead used tremendous amounts of reaver harassment, which tended to be effective since Terrans on lost temple would always position their buildings to try to block the entrance to their base so that the dragoons couldn't run by and stop them from getting gas. The result was that their static defense was not at the correct point of attack.
