My take on TA has always the same - you think there's not enough content on here, then add some. I've seen this place be written off and then one person ups a good thread and it blows up again.
Advice for the OP - take the plunge and stop being spoiled. Any hobby, passion or past time take investment - both financially and physically.
When I started DJing, my first decks and mixer cost me £600 which was a fuck of a lot of money for a 14 year old, many years ago. That didn't even get me a good setup - it was belt drive turntables, a second hand ghetto blaster with a line input and a crap 2channel mixer.
When I upgraded a little over a year later my setup cost me close to £1100 which was a fucking fortune that I paid by (t)working, begging, borrowing, stealing and dealing.
I have spend that 10 times over (at least) since then and I consider myself only a "decent" dj after practicing for nearly 15 years.
Bottom line, stop looking for instant gratification wihtout actually committing to anything. If you're really passionate, then pony up, buy what you can (or can't afford) and never look back.
You'll either make it or you won't; but you'll back and have fond memories of all the fun you had with the decks, all the parties you played, that nervewracking time you first had to step up to the decks in a packed club and just wanted to puke but somehow you pull it off, all those sublime mixes you didn't know you had inside and all those incredible tracks which become the soundtrack of one of the best times of your life.
No risk, no gain.
