Yes good idea spoke with Yamaha tech support and they mentioned the same thing so will look into getting some.

Wat? You mean you're not using balanced cables between the Saffire and your yama's? Fucking christ, could have saved us quite a bit of time by mentioning that in the first place lol.

No I have balanced Rann . With shielded I gather that means a protective coating or somesort of cover over the cable itself.

anyways, I got a call this morning from Yamaha themselves and the tech guy said that its an inherent thing with those monitors. Cant remember exactly what he said but he said it was to do with the positioning of the volume control and all the circuitry for the low pass hi pass filters and so on.

Technically speaking, the shield is a name for the ground conductor in a balanced cabled. However, some cables can just have three conductors, whereas others actually use a braided shield (Van Damme, Mogami, Belden etc) as the the ground. Ideally a braided ground is better or best of the best, is a star quad cable (two twisted pairs (four conductors which are two opposing pairs joined, and a braided shield).

Unless you were using unbalanced cables (?) which are very prone to noise depending on the exact situation, I don't really see how this is going to fix the problem of the hiss.

Can you point me in the direction of some good cables. When i got mine it said they were balanced so i went with that mate!

Im slowly learning the deeper side of setting up a studio all over again
