Eminem sucks sooooo bad. I wish all the teenie bopper lamers wouldn't buy his sorry albums...honestly he raps about the same ol' stuff every single album. Anyone can come on an album and cry about things or offend people for attention to sell their work. SO LAME!!! I bet he can't produce for shiz! If he doesn't make music for the love and enjoyment of it he shouldn't be in the industry. Peace.

SELLOUT! how can he bitch about not making money he probably doesnt know what to do with the amount of money he has. he deserves to be shot in the foot for being that moronic. he just really needs to shut the f*ck up. ahh i could go on forever about how stupid this is but its pointless
/end rant

P.S. i dont realy enjoy denying decent artists of thier money when it comes to CDs but with him its different..I LOVE IT

halo is 100% right, I think a lot of you are just trying to justify not paying for music - which is just plain WRONG.

The fact that mark-ups on recorded music are huge is irrelevant. The creator of that music is entitled to be compensated for their work: just like anyone else. I... am trying to see how someone could have the other perspective, but honestly can't see how it's fair to the artists to not be paid for their work.

I wish there were some way to pay artists directly for their music rather than going through record labels, but the fact is there isn't.

If he sucks so bad, why'd you download his CD? The fact that Eminem made something that people want to listen to entitles him to be compensated! Arrrg i can't understand this, someone please defend the other point of view intelligently before i have a hernia

Im gonna yhave a go at defending the other side I think the point thats trying to be made is not that were trying to defend the fact we don't pay for our music. I think it's the fact that were annoyed with eminem, simply for making his music for one purpose. He makes his music to make money, you can't tell me he that he has some deep meaningful underlying message going on in his songs, because he doesnt. its all the same regenerated shit, created for one purpose. I think completely differently to that, if one godforsaken day I made music that I had put my heart and soul into, sure I want some money, but I reckon the greatest thing I could receive was other peoples admiration of the music. The fact that i could make someone feel happy or enjopy themselves would more than compensate for some people downloading 1 of 15 million that i was about to recieve for a record. But I think's thats an advantage of the scene were involved in, for the majority of artists involved it's about clubs and music and atmosphere not simply making $$$ as quick as possible.

Cheers

Chris

i would like to get some money too for doing nothing

that's ridiculous. you think these people do nothing? question their motivation all you want, but don't tell me they don't do anything (studio time, tours, public appearances).

quote:
what about the fucking millions of up and coming producers spending fucking insane amounts of money and time with not so much as a single release... the amount of effort and time put in... the reason is cause they love the music... not the fat paycheck

if you think that they wouldn't like to be paid for what they do, you're kidding yourself.

quote:
in the underground scene artists are more likely to support the mp3 scene as they get more known thanks to it

The mp3 scene is a double-edged sword for "underground" or independant artists. on the one hand, it's true, it is possible to gain a great fan base from your mp3s if you can get them out there properly. on the other hand, if nobody's going to buy your music, how are you to be expected to make a living? In fact, forget making a living - how can you be expected to buy new gear when you need it etc... I've got first-hand experience with this from this very site. I released a track on a UK label back in the spring. I posted a link here (under an old name) to an on-line record store where you could buy it (a little shameless self-promotion never hurts), and the first reply I got back was "just grabbed em off AG. ". Needless to say I never saw a cent from that release (which is fine - but it would have at least been nice to be able to cover the cost of sending the master CD overseas to the label).

Do you think it's just coincidence that smaller distribution companies are having trouble in the last year or so? Sure, the huge labels aren't in any serious danger because they've got such a huge market, but labels and distributors who aim at more of a niche market are not having an easy time... and unfortunately they're usually the only ones who innovate.

lol, your pretty consistent aren't you?

Yeah, artists deserve to be compensated for their music. I have tons and tons of music (vastly electronic) on my computer that wasn't paid for. However, I do buy lots of cd's, I have at least 100 electronica cd's.

While that still doesn't make up for all the tunes I download from the TA hub or soulseek, I just can't justify paying 10 dollars for a record with 1 or 2 songs on it. Especially when they are hard to get and I don't DJ. Does everyone screaming about artists being compensated buy all the vinyls to tunes they download?

I think mp3's can be good or bad. I use them to determine if I should buy an artists cd or not. If I end up with more than 1 or 2 songs from a certain cd I generally go out and buy it.

One more thing, if CD's weren't so god awful expensive, I'd buy even more than I do now.

So Uh, yeah.

First of all lets all stop trying to justify your stealing music by citing mainstream artists. Your not even taking there stuff, your taking the other artists alot of whom don'twant there music to be downloaded. Besides it must require some talent to make it big, in fact i was talking to my uncle the other day who works as a&r at interscope records. He was telling me about all the things we look for in an artist that most people don't even realize there looking for, and how some people are clearly a cut above the rest. The biggest thing he told me was that less than one in 500 people who come to him, and are realtivly good get signed, even less go gold.

As far as artists wanting to make money of there music, lets not all lie to ourselves and tell ourselves that if we were loosing potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars we woudnt get pissed off. Every artist loves there music, but at the day everything, music and everything else is a buisness. Your goal may not be money, but your working to attain or retain something.

Anyways I'm really sick of people trying to justify stealing other peoples music. I don't have a good reason, and I'll admit it I _do_ steal music.
