Ultra hasnt touched on their production in a long time. Stage wise, festival vibe wise, food, etc.
EDC is doing so because of the ID&T influence.
But ID&T will win no matter what - unless the acquisition changes that and they go with simplicity and no stage decor or festival vibe - and simply just book the djs like Ultra does.
Sorry Ultra, flames on a metal truss stage doesnt cut it, or large tents with the same air filled stars hanging down.
Not going.

Have you been to ultra lately, the mega structure is the best enclosed stage I have been to at any festival, so much so that EDC tried to replicate it this past year

From the sound of you talking about the stairs you haven't been in 3 years. It's much better now

Not true, Ultra's production is definitely top notch the last couple of years.

The production does get better every year. 2013 was best year yet. Agreed that it's not worth $500 though.

Bad time for a festival to make mistakes, with all the competition these days. Mysteryland looks interesting, Tomorrowworld was supposedly awesome, and then you have EDC whom has been stepping their game up as well.

For $500, the experience better be far and away better than anything else that is offered in the country. I don't know if that's true. And honestly, $500 is just too much for ANY festival, I don't care how badass it is or who is playing. It's just too much damn money to fork out to see a glorified light show and dudes mixing electronic music in a massive sea of kandi kids.

But then again, I'm reminded of how insignificant electronic music is compared to the world of football and basketball and how much money is involved at those events. I spent $190 on a pair of tickets for a Magic game at the beginning of the season (as much as I love pro basketball, these games usually nowhere near the experience of a good music festival). It's all relative to your disposable income, I guess.

You have to look at it like this, it will eventually sell out and if they dont get approval for the second week they needed that $500 a ticket to compete with the production they did last year. Last year they invested two weeks worth of money in to what was basically one show worth of production. The setup and tear down cost a lot of money and it give them a better opportunity to provide more if they only have to pay that fee once. This year with possibly one weekend in order to have the same production they needed to step up ticket prices to make the show comparable with last year because trust me, last years production did not come from one weeks worth of money. Most of the festivals spend the entire ticket price if not more on talent and production and make their money off concessions and other add-ons which is still tons of money.

Apparently GA tickets are already at a limited level of availability.

There isn't a single thing unique or exciting about the production at Ultra, It's as generic as most large festivals short of Insomniac now and the ID&T stuff. The mainstage is just a giant Ultra symbol with flames, the Carl Cox stage is just the generic mega-structure that festivals have been using for like four years now, and overall the venue is ridiculously small.

This. I have been to Ultra all these years and just fed up. In my opinion those who have not been to an ID&T event will say Ultras production is mind blowing. and all the changes they do, etc. Talk all you want until you really see a festival. Sorry but with all the money Ultra has, they simply put on a show with booked djs and the same basic setups as every year. No change towards a festival direction. Feels like a rock concert for EDM.

ultra is cool but it's just like every other festival in the US. same line up as the others, same crowd, same production. at the end of the day, it's just DJs on a big platform with lasers and lights and LED screens lol.

i am a bit impressed that they are bringing a lot of live acts this year. definitely cool, although i'd prefer to see acts such as massive attack at an intimate venue with real fans as opposed to the yolo noobs. and it is cool that they're bringing in newer talent (for example, there is clearly going to be a diynamic label stage since they have solomun, HOSH, adriatique).. but i'd rather pay $20 to see them at their own label party at like treehouse than $500 to have to see them at ultra.

big festivals are definitely fun once in a while and we know how to make the best out of them but outside of movement in detroit, i don't think any are truly worth their price.

ARTICLE: "is the irrational exuberance of edm ticket pricing setting in?"

http://www.elektrodaily.com/news/20...ing-setting-in/

decent read.

So I emailed Ultra asking about single day tickets, and they replied stating that we would be swapping our 3 day pass for a weekend bracelet to wear all three days. They also stated that they would not be offering single day tickets or wristbands at all this year (yes I know they haven't done this for a few years now). My question is do you guys know of any other ways to get in, besides paying for all three. I am only going for 1 day due to work?? Would greatly appreciate any help!
