Okay, I'm a bit tired so this may be a bit short and not make a lot of sense.
Got there at about 12.00 and headed straight for what we thought as the progressive room - i.e. the Indoor Courts (we though the main arena was going to be Vodaphone Arena). When the guy who we thought was Mark James dropped "Age of Love" and "I Feel Love" back to back though, we soon caught on. Left soon after for the highly successful "TA Meet-Up" and after a quick chat with Philby I pissed off to go look for my friends, but then got a call from my uni mate who was in the VIP lounge so I went back there (which is where I bumped into Philby again I guess ) and had a quick dance to the house music in there before meeting my friends back in the Indoor Courts for Judge Jules' set.
I only saw about 20 minutes in the end, not really my cup of tea to be honest, though everyone around me seemed to enjoy it. But yeah, as soon as 1.30am rolled around it was time for us to go and see Satoshi...... well, nearly.
First we had to queue for 15 fucking minutes just to get into the place, then when we finally got in it was so bloody packed, hot and poorly ventilated it wasn't funny. As for Satoshi, I think he's definately moved away from his housier roots and well and truly into the progressive side of things. His set was more upbeat than his recent Nu-Breed CD, and had a definate housy tip to it even though, as I say, it's a fair way from the sort of housier stuff he used to produce/spin a few years back. He was bloody terrific, no bullshit, just the occasional smile when he pulled off a decent mix that got the crowd going (i.e. basically every single transition). It was the sort of no-nonsense prog stuff that you just can't stop moving to - relentless yet subtle. Very, very cool stuff and I'm glad I got the chance to see him.
We were only there for a little over an hour and a half in the end because the joint was just way too stuffy, which is bad planning on the organisers behalf. I'm not saying the prog room needed to be the size of Vodaphone arena, but it definately needed to be bigger, or at least better ventilated - it was probably 30+ degrees in there at that stage. Anyway, it did take away a bit from the experience, but the crowd in there was great and Satoshi really seemed to enjoy himself.
So having left there, and chilled a bit in the fresh air with a cig or two, we went back into the main arena to see Armin about 15 or so minutes into his set, just in time to hear him drop his own remix of Seven Cities. Perfect bloody timing I'd say.
As everyone else said he played a blinder (or at least, what I saw of him), and really seemed to enjoy himself, jumping around and clapping and so on. Messed up a couple of mixes from memory (where he - intentionally or not - dropped this breaksy track in the middle of one of his build ups which confused me no end) but all in all he got it most of it spot on and played one smooth trance set. By the time it hit 4.15 though I was beginning to tire and decided to leave Armin mid-set (please don't hurt me) to persue some deeper, darker beats in the prog room to keep me going.
Got in just in time to hear Satoshi drop his last track (some dark-as breaks remix of Up In Flames) before Chris Fortier came on to become the unexpected highlight of my evening. Initially I was worried about Chris Fortier playing the breaksier side of his repetoire (like his first bedrock CD) and my fears we realised when he mixed in a breaks track into Satoshi's last one, and then another couple of breaks tracks straight after. Not that I dislike breaks you understand, but only in the comfort of my own home. Waaay to difficult to dance to in a club/rave atmosphere.
Anyway, at this point I was considering going back into the main arena to catch the Armin/j00f transition, but then Chris picked it up in a big way. The music went from mid-tempo breaks into some up-tempo, straight up prog music that got me dancing and didn't let me stop. He just dropped one savage tune after another with flawless technique and the atmosphere just grew and grew in keeping with music he lay down. He let the set build really well, starting off with more minimal prog music then letting it build into this solid almost techy affair, before letting it culminate with Lemon 8's New York, New York which stripped the entire thing right back down with it's deep, deep beat and dark samples. This was where I had to leave when he started to play slightly more mellow, uplifting stuff, but I left knowing that unless j00f pulled off something special, I'd just witnessed my favourite set of the night. And he nearly did.
Again, I walked into the main arena with impecible timing, just in time to watch Mr Fleming drop Quest - Accelerator. If anyone can find me a track with a more massive beat drop I'd be very suprised. Gives me shivers every time.
Even though I was physically knackered by this stage (given all the dancing plus the fact that I'd been up at 8am the previous morning and then drinking all day in the members section of Flemington) but '00's not-quite-prog, not-quite-trance music kept me going very, very nicely. Much darker than the set I can remember from him @ TT, but then that's just the way a like it, so no complaints from me. I think I left the arena with my remaining mate at about 6.10 for a smoke and a quick rest with the intention of going to see Sean Quinn wrap up proceedings in the prog room, but even after a Red Bull, a rejuvinating cig and a decent sit down, we were both far too fucked to go on (plus my mate had to be at work by 9.00 that morning - poor bastard) so after appreciating j00f's set from the outside at the back for about 20 minutes, we caught a taxi home, thus ending our GK experience.
So yeah, that about it. Hope everyone in Sydney and Perth enjoy it as much as I did (and the other Melb TA's did from the sounds of it) and I can't wait until the next big event - though it's probably gonna take me a while to recover from this one. :-/

Ah shit yeah, that was definately one of the best nights i've had in a long while.
Arrive just after 1 and cruise around meeting up with other mates from here and there. Then we moved down to the prog room, no queues at this point, so we just waltzed on in. Yeah, the heat in that place was shocking and kinda unusual placement for it, but what the fvck, all good.
Waited around for Satoshi and this man stood up, and delivered. Farkin nice sounds pouring out of the speakers and onto the crowd. What was that he dropped in at about 2:15? Fark it was good, subtle, almost ambient build up then more elements come in with a funky, chunky bassline. I could've kept going to that all night.
But 3am rolled around and i knew where i had to be. Armin played what to me is the best set i've heard all year from any Dj (who has come down to melbourne to play). His opening track strapped me in and his remix of solar stone totally blew me away. The set was kicking and thumping and i was absolutely loving it, picking tracks left, right and centre, well, just left and right then.
And then came the moment i was wishing for. The deep warbling synths and thumping bass was creeping in with a familiar tone that signalled the arrival of Pulser - Cloudwalking (Beat Pushers remix), and with that, i went absolutely mental. Ah, fvck i love that tune.
With the sound of goodbye ringing in my ears, i knew this set was just about over and i was now so pumped the clanging of two saucepans could have made me dance. But Joof came on and delivered so much more. Quest - Accelerator was a tasty surprise and fvck did it scare all the 'newbies' when the bass kicked in, funny sight to see.
Joof's encores were great and his i really enjoyed his set, a deeper trance, more proggy, all up, very good.
It had all ended too soon, but thats what you get for an event you've been looking forward to for god knows how long. My only gripe? Uni is back and i've done no work.
The photos are in development, i'm still recovering but what a fvcking fantastic night that was.
