Absolutely. It's worth it for the Focus control alone, which is essentially a crossover point for the width split. The few extra controls really extend it's range and usefulness. If you use it much and swing the extra $49, I'd go for it.
Thanks, I've been leaning heavily towards just upgrading the thing as it has been getting a lot of use and is convenient. Probably well worth it for less than fifty bucks.
Some nice tips , I was a bit curious about something I might as well ask it in here I notice a lot of people are using a muted kick as the input for their sidechaining nowadays, what kind of benefit does this serve besides having your pads and what not pumping during a breakdown as opposed to doing it the old fashioned way?

Used to always run a muted sidechain track, dont bother anymore as i found that sidechaining seems to work better using whatever kick is in your track, i just find its easier to get the release right

this is new to me anyway - and probably not for people averse to touching the mixbus
Pultec EQP-1A on the mixbuss
Set Low frequency to 30
Bandwidth to 7
Now set Atten to 10 - removing pretty much all the low end
Then dial the low end back up to taste with the Boost
Sit back and enjoy the sound!
Obviously can be done with various other EQs, not sure if it will sound as good tho

Nice, quite similar to the classic pultec low end trick. I don't normally do this with the EQ strapped over the mix buss, but nearly always use this technique with my kicks. I usually end up with the low frequency dial set to 60hz as most of the time it sounds better to my ears for my sounds.
You can do this with majority of pultec clones, I use the PE1C from Tube-Tech.

its sweet because you can boost the low end quite a bit but it never really sounds too much unless you go way overboard
