Look at his avatar, man. I think he's down because I've shat on his favourite label a bit. Although I will say that I've seen both Art Of Trance and Union Jack play together in a tiny club in Manchester and it was awesome.

A bit?? You killed it, Jack. You killed it!

Nah, I don't care, mate.

I think their apex was 1997-2000 [Platipus Records Volumes 3-6]. 2001 and 2002 were decent years, but they were clearly in decline and becoming rather standard fare. I like their original 1995 stuff, but Eye Q was clearly superior then and probably a superior label overall - though I do prefer Platipus

I truly love their new stuff when a single track is used, like in Dave King's BMC mix, but it's obviously not exactly innovative.

You might also want to check out other labels (which you may already know) like Harthouse, MFS, Rising High Records, Frankfurt Beat Productions, Le Petit Prince, Fax +49-69/450464, Superstition, etc.

Bonzai Records is generally crap, but it did release a few classics like Wayfarer, The First Rebirth, The House Of House, and Dark Symphony.

Apropos your question about digital downloads - most of the oldschool stuff was vinyl-only, but you can stream most of the classics on Discogs/Youtube if you can't buy them in vinyl or digital. Lots of people these days are ripping tracks for instant streaming, which you may have already noticed.

Wait, you thought "sans" was pretentious, but this is okay?

I like myself some Platipus, but Eye Q really hits all the buttons right for me, as well as it's sister labels Recycle or Die and Harthouse.

I don't think "sans" is pretentious in writing, which I've already mentioned. Did you come here today to spew your bullshit? Try staying on topic.
