The Electronic scene in Europe is so much more evolved then the scene here in the United States.... Especially Southern California.. I honestly don't understand the shit-tastic booking that takes place at Edc almost every year. Look at the lineup that Mysteryland had booked here in the States, half of the lineup was devoted to strictly Techno and House whilst the other half was devoted to "edm"

They do seem to like their techno. Europe does have more than it's fair share of shitty festival music too but they have a lot more options that balance it out.

Eric prydz has probably changed more than anyone in the top 100 rankings. Don't you remember that ultra classic call on me!? That's when he was at his peak, been steadily going down since. Check out youtube video hits as evidence.

You guys also gotta remember that once you get to an Armin or Tiesto level, you go from becoming a simple "dj" to a company with many mouths to feeds. So the bigger you become, the more business minded decisions you gotta make. Tiesto & Armin are the perfect example of a business minded DJ's.

How is that not still selling out? That is practically the definition - rather than make decisions about their music/sound they are letting 'business/success (money)' reasons their priority. That is selling out no matter how you cut it.

I guess you could argue that armin/tiesto actually like the new shit they are playing, but lol if so...

I never said it wasn't selling out. I actually meant to say that they sold out to keep their business alive. Just look at the staff picture Armin posted. That's a lot of people he has to pay and that's not everyone in his payroll. If he was to "keep it real," I highly doubt he would make enough to pay them all. He would still get bookings, but not of the same caliber nor the same pay.

I wouldn't because I don't DJ (and have zero desire to do so). Apparently you think everyone is or wants to be a DJ. The point of this thread is not everyone sells out.

Or that some people can still reach a certain level of monetary success while still creating and playing what they love...
