This is big room. Just because we dont prefer the music doesnt mean we dont know what it is. This is entry level electronic music for my generation. Some people eventually swim upstream and develop a predilection for quality, while some stay swept up in the commercialized hype.

Here is an epic mash up of beatports top songs. All are bigroom house. Just take a second to listen to them, AND REALIZE THEY ALL SOUND THE FUCKING SAME.

I think it has something to do with applying a two-dimensional positioning of (sub)genres. I.e: If you define progressive house as being somewhere between house and trance, which I think is reasonable. Now house and trance have of course completely reinvented their sound many times over the years, so presuming everything runs in tandem you could reason that a modern version of progressive house would sound something like this. Further helped along by the fact that many of the big and popular house and trance DJ's have readily adopted the sound for their sets as well.
