Beatport Genres are a joke. Progressive house to them = SHM, EC twats etc.

Trance = Tiesto and Gareth Emery both of which are the same as SHM and EC Twats.

The only thing that is very telling is the dubstep curve, because it's clearly not any other type of dance music (no, brostep, metalstep, etc do not actually exist anywhere apart from in the mind of wannabe music journalists and DJ's).

Very interesting and informative. I listen to DJ sets on soundcloud and mixcloud, and hear a lot of deep house. It seems to be the one genre everyone can agree on.

what I read:

1. Buyers prefer a trend to lower BPMs
2. Buyers don't like breakbeats in any way shape or form.
3. People who don't buy (but carry around their monthly torrented ASBO top100 USB sticks) are not part of this population
4. Same for rusty techno hippies.

So it's a bit of a reflection of the conformist hipster community who actually spend money on Beatport
and yes even then genres are blurred (Progressive = Big Room was complextro eetc etc...)
But the hunger for lower BPMs is clear.

hmmm this is very confusing...

1)Prog House was at it's peak in the era of mcprog and in the mud in when bigroom ass-clowns are representing.

2)How can it be that Dubstep is selling so little? i mean i think it's crap but it doesn't make sense that big American labels are pouring so much money and effort onto it if it yields so little.

3)Trance 2.0 and giant supersaws killed Trance in 2007, why did they keep going with the new sound even though it sells much less than the old one?

4)Bigroom and Electro are starting to die but it's taking way too long.

5)The Breaks curve is depressing, some really awesome tunes in that genre and because of stats like this we're stuck listening to 4x4 for all eternity.

6)Deep House is going to be watered down,commercialized,Americanized and turned into complete shit in a year or two, it is a refreshing change for now but nothing about it gives you that "E rush" anyway.


7)How can Techno sell so much while Eminem argues that nobody listens to techno and lets go?

i would like to see how many units sold, I suspect beatport is a lot smaller than it comes off

I also kinda suspect they are in the back pocket of these labels or at least they pay for promotional packages to get their tracks charting regardless of actual sales
