Om-fucking-nom-nom.

I just got given a 2011 27" Imac, so my ever loyal 2008 20.5 will be taken to my business and the new one becomes my main rig. Not gas as such, juts a nice upgrade. Probably need to buy a new SSD for the 2011 IMac....

Once you go SSD, normal HDD are like trying to run a marathon in 3 foot of treacle

Edit: oh, probably give a drum sequencer a go. Maybe Nerve.

Actually, the one thing I am GAS'ing over is a UA Apollo Twin Solo. I currently have an Apogee One (original version) for my MacBook Air and it's great, but it takes up one of my two precious USB ports. I'd like to have a TB, and the Apollo is one of the few TB interfaces available at a somewhat reasonable price. Anybody here have one? Thoughts?

Yeah I considered an iMac but I really need the portability. New baby is literally weeks away now and if I don't have something I can take with me with a pair of cans to another room I'll literally never get any work done. I'm hoping the MBP will see me through at least the first 3 years!

The V-Synth was 'because it was there'

I've heard nothing but good things, but they are mighty expensive. Have you not seen the new MOTU TB interfaces? I think they are pretty smart as you can aggregate them together over ethernet and they come in a variety of input formats. So you could have a main one at the computer then another one over by your kurzweil to take care of all those inputs (they have one version with 16 jack inputs) and have that sent back to the computer with a single network cable. Very smart.

No, not the big Apollo - my MOTU 828mkII is still fine for my main DAW. I'm talking about the small-form factor Twin Solo for my lappy. The one big turn-off, though, is no bus power.

Aha ok. I know a dude that uses one of those on his mbp and he swears by it.

If you just want some TB ins/outs then there's the Zoom TAC2 as well. Ive heard its ok.

Yeah, I've been keeping the Zoom in the back of my mind, but I've actually seen the Apollo at Guitar Center and it's built like a tank, plus UA has a great track record. I'm not so confident about the Zoom.

On a related note, I got pretty excited when the new Apogee/Avid interfaces were announced last week.....until I saw the price tags!

.....and then saw that, even with those ridiculous price tags, they're only USB, not TB.

I just bought Bitwig Studio and Synthmaster for $45, that's enough gas for me for a while.

Juan, I am officially jealous of your TR-8

I want to get one and MIDI sync it with my TB-3 and just have some sick jam sessions.

I remember reading that TB has ridiculously high licensing costs so you're at say $50 manufacturing cost before you've even built the thing.

Not the best way to get something mainstream.

The only fly in the ointment is that on PC you have to select it as your soundcard to get the integration. Which means you can't monitor the rest of the mix.

Totally fucking dumb

Well it sends audio thru USB and you connect the main outs from the TR-8 into your monitors. I know in Logic all you have to press is the R button on the channel strip to hear the TR-8 and you also hear whatever else you have in the mix. In cubase you can't select 2 different sound cards i think like in logic, i tried, maybe i missed something but you never know.
