looks cool and sounds really good - probably intended for the dubstep market but could be nice for FX type stuff

I don't think it is tbh, just a lot of the wavetables were created by people who are into dubstep.

The unison is so (Virus) good that it could be just as intended for tarnceh!

I could really get down messing with those wave forms and make some really cool ambient stuff.

I demo'ed it the past few days and it really is a fun synth. it's fun because of the ability to modify and modulate anything, it's definitely massive-esque in that regard. it does seem that most of the factory waveforms are geared toward dubstep, to be honest I wasn't impressed with most of the factory waveforms. mainly because even though they have some unique waveforms too, a large percentage of the waveforms are unusable imo.

what really got my attention was: the sound quality is nice, the wavetable index morphing is impressive and the ability to import your own waveforms. not only that, but you get alot of control over customizing the individual frames within the wavetable index. this synth definitely fills a good niche. the demo times out after 20 min's then you have to reload the instance. those 20 min's seemed to fly by cuz it's fun to program this synth

Gotta agree with this sum up

I can't help the niggling feeling that this version of serum is deliberately crippled in some regards so they can roll out some 'wow' updates in the future.

There's plenty of scope for some awesome sound design as it stands, but why no second filter on the synth page, why no second layer like sylenth, synthmaster etc, why no step sequencer? Those additions seem too obvious given the clearly obsessive attention to detail that's gone into the plugin elsewhere.

Isn't there a dual filter? (Can't check atm due to reformatting my computer)

Perhaps, but even so I'd rather have two discreet filters for serial/parallel duties. That becomes even more useful when you have two separate synth layers to work with and you can feed different layers to different filters to do different things.
