I highly encourage all of you who played FF7 (and may have not liked it) to read this article. Its long, but dont skim through it or you will have no fucking idea whats going on. Read it all, its an excellent read
WARNING: dont read it if you havent played through the game!

FFVII touches a level of depth in both its dramatic story telling and in its symbolism that has never been approached by another RPG. I've never played a video game which has challenged me more in it's requirement of the player to think about it's story in order to understand it. This is a very confusing story and I hope that I've done a good job of explaining the tale and its intriguing mythological basis.
sounds like a long and involved guess to me. i dont really buy it that they put THAT MUCH secrecy or mystery into a game.
regardless, the ending still sucked ass. if you pay 7 dollars to see a movie and it has an open ended ending, perhaps thats acceptable.
if i pay 50 dollars for a game that i spend 60+ hours on, on average, it isnt acceptable to have a stupid ending which explains nothing, and doesnt make sense (red 13 is the last of his kind, how could he have kids). we arent playing games on nintendo anymore, so short, dumb endings just dont cut it.

If I pay 50 bucks for a game and spend 60+ hours on it, I dont want linear story with a super happy ending that wraps everything up with a big bow. I like stories that really make you think and make you draw conclusions for yourself. Personal preference, I suppose. FF7 had a great backstory, but I agree the ending was a bit weak, but was sufficent.

Like many Square games...I'm sure FF7 was rushed too. Take Xenogears for example...that's pretty much the best storyline to a game that I've ever seen and almost all of the second disk is nothing but text and cutscenes..not really much gameplay.(No bashing me please, I love Xenogears lol) FF7 probably would have had a better ending if there wasn't such a demand for the game at the time.
