I will throw my two cents too. I profesionally photograph museum and gallery stuff for catalogues and also for archiving purposes. And...I needed a good all-round camera, that will be able to handle some abuse, so I got Pentax K-30, first because it really has the best reproduction of colours, but also, because it is weather-sealed...and can handle shit that would throw your Nikon into a service station for quite a long time.
Wet environments particularly...a photoshoot done in underground systém was the most challenging, with water dripping from pretty much everywhere... a few rebels died that day how sad...
Also, pentax lens mounts are compatible since like 1970s so if you learn to work in full manual, you can get excellent lens fro 10 bucks or less.
The "set" lens comming with pentaxes are also much better quality than those that came with my backup Nikon d90.
One more thing thats just so great is easily buy-able conversion adapter for M42 lens, which are those you would see on the oldest cameras... so even more lens for almost picking them up.
I had quite a few cameras now and most of them I used for professional shoots. Pentax K30 beats even a nikon D700 (full frame) in my opinion. Indeed full frame is full frame, but all around usability of the pentax beats the living shit out of it.
So I say go get a K30 (or a K50 which is almost the same) and you will not be disappointed
