that's surprising to hear since DIVA recently tried emulating the JP8000's supersaw by adding the "digital oscillator." DIVA didn't nail the JP supersaw 100% - but it sounded good and was impressively close. So when I first heard about Hive, I thought for sure they would incorporate DIVA's supersaw into Hive.
I demo'ed Hive for a little bit, it's a nice sounding synth but I agree with you on the unison. I don't know what it is but it just doesn't sound good to my ears as Sylenth, and to a lesser extent - I feel the same way about the detuning too. With a name like "Hive" I was expected something different I guess. Since the JP8000's supersaw has that harsh buzzing in the upper harmonics, I was expecting Hive to have that kind of sound. It's nice that they have different detune law options, but none of them matched the name imho.
Maybe the synth's name "The Hive" is more of a nod to the mdma chemists of the late 90's / early 00's and not a nod to the buzzing sound of a classic supersaw. j/k It really is a good synth and I think it will serve as a great Sylenth replacement to alot of people. But it's just not for me, it can't do anything that my current line-up can't do better imo.
