Soundcloud/Reddit/Youtube has been full of this late 80's electro sounding stuff lately and I've really been getting into it. I've also stumbled upon a few of the genuine 80's articles as a result. This stuff just comes in cycles I guess.

They haven't settled on a strict genre name for it quite yet, keeps getting labeled outrun, futuresynth, new retrowave and all sorts of stuff. I think people are going back to this sort of style now because it is becoming more relevant to our time, given the economic and political climate we are now living in.

Its fun to dig into older stuff, it gives one a deeper appreciation for the form by knowing its roots.I do think it is important to keep up with new shit and not let those little ******s generation gap you though.

I got into trance 2 years ago, and Im developing a greater appreciation of the 90s-00s trance. I still love the new songs, but the old stuff come in so many unique sounds. Are there any clubs/djs that still play classic trance? I live in Midwest America which has hardly any electronic music playing.

I'd definitely agree that for a long while, 'newness' drove electronic music forward - genres being created left and right and people always dropping what was current for burgeoning trends. But then, the genre-pushing, the technical wizardry, the beats-per-minute, the time signatures, all of these hit their limits and the innovators were forced to look to innovate in the spaces between genres instead of at their limits.

And then after the minimal techno boom and bust, people started to look more to Detroit and Chicago, and the history of house and techno, to mine ideas. Sure, disco sampling has been going on in a long while with house music, but the frequency of releases of 'throwback' sounds and genres has been much greater since the late 2000's.

Because it sounds better, plain and simple. I wasn't listening to trance in the 90s, so no nostalgia factor here. It just sounds better. As far as trance goes, the older stuff is typically genuine, exciting music made with love by people who aren't trendy talentless cookie cutter hacks. Every performance is better if there's true passion behind it, and that's basically what I chalk it up to.
A lot of the trance back in the day was made by DJs who wanted to make people feel cheerful and energized with their music and understood how to make people move. You won't find any of those traits in 99% of today's producers or songs, and that's ultimately why "trance" (as the well known commercial goofs call it) just isn't marketable anymore.

Hey, First of all i gotta say i dig back a lot,
Mostly live sets.

I like to hear the crowd reactions a lot , always did.
And also i think turntable DJ`in was different. Not only with in
the way it sounds but perhaps a little more emotion could be felt from
the DJ`s while they were playing at that time. The mixing was much less automated,
And aroused my ears more i believe and perhaps each and every one of our us ears as well.

I was listening to trance in the 90's. If this whole moving people stuff would be true then those 1% who are able to would be the big stars right now.
