I work with lots of young girls - girls in their early - mid 20s, and most of them have debt. And not even a lot of debt, in my opinion, but worst of all it's consumer debt.
These girls...kids...figure they're having fun now and they'll just pay later, not even taking into account that they're paying interest on top of it while they continue to rack up more debt. Not to mention they have no idea what's going to happen in their future - what if they lose their jobs, or get injured at work, or some other life event happens that they haven't planned for? So stupid.
The point is, if they were smarter with their money, they could still do most of the fun stuff they want to do now, without basically throwing money away at the same time and fucking themselves later.
It's absolutely insane to me, to think of giving the bank tens of thousands of dollars in interest when you could easily be saving most of that!
Anyhow, not really career advice, but it's part of the whole picture when factoring in work/life balance and being able to enjoy both. Especially if you're going to work part time. You really don't have to give up anything if you know what you're doing with your money. Just speaking to the cons of going to work at the clinic. There is potential to gain so much more than just money and work experience.
Plus, there must be the potential to pick up shifts and over time? I know people at the top of their payscale that are technically hired into part time lines, but know how to work the system so that they bring in well over 100 grand a year. edit --> WITHOUT working like dogs.
