Lol guys, calm down.
You have to realize that Apple have decided that they could transition the Macbook in to the air. The vast majority of people (their consumer base) are using macbooks for non demanding / processor hungry tasks, and store everything on the cloud.
These will be fine for webdevs, a bit of photoshop/illustrator (I'm doing it fine on a lesser spec PC laptop), bloggers, writers and general business duties.
Also, Juan actually nailed it; It's shiny shiny. I got my grubbies on one and although I'd never even consider it for audio (or my other tasks as I prefer a bigger screen) it feels and looks like the tits. People obsessed with consumerism (iphone owners) will lap them up. The one attractive thing to me is the weight (my laptop in nice carry bag tops out at 15lbs) and for travelling it would be nice to have something so miniscule.
That single USB you mention is actually the new USB-C protocol which can supply 20v at 100w. You just use different connector cables or a hub. It actually makes sense as each socket takes up considerable space in the housing/motherboard and they found they could save 25% space during the engineering process by consolidating it to one port. Also, it's difficult to find the correct number and types of ports to suit everyone, so a single multi use port is really the easiest solution. It also allows charging at the same time as charging other devices.
They'll sell millions of them and they appealing to a certain base with this. If you want a nice shiny laptop that is ultra portable, and you don't really need processor crucial applications then it's for you.
The new Macbook pro update is a disappointment though; about a 5% increase in performance is negligible.
I'm wthinking there will be an big update later this year (complete redsign) that sees much bigger increases in performance due to the skylake chips.

This is the point. Bottlenecks (unless you're doing seriously processor hungry activities) have all been with data transfer throughout the chain, not CPU speed, and that's why chip manufacturers like Intel & co. have not made anywhere near the same periodic gains that we had 10-12 years ago.
Also, if you're working on anything big in terms of size, you know you're going to have at least 1 or 2 backups, so what's the point of storing all your projects locally? In any professional environment (and I'm talking audio, design, CGI, GIS, Animation, etc) only the current working projects are stored locally and when finished it's back to master server or backup drives.
I have a 256g SSD in this laptop and I abuse it like crazy - all sorts of storage faux pas and I'm still only at 70% capacity. Dropbox is what $80 a year for 1tb. Apple give you tons of free cloud space.
I expect the price of the air to drop by quite a lot, then be discontinued (unless they really make it tiny and weightless) as the new normal macbook is only a 1/8th of inch thicker and basically the same weight.
ipads don't do all the same shit. Try photoshop, illustrator, logic - basically any advanced editing program on only a touchscreen. No fun.
The watches are a complete fucking waste of space though. Until they actually put an iphone on a wriststrap, then these silly offerings are just gimmicks. You really need a relay from your iphone, to your watch, to your bluetooth headset? Cut out the middleman. Give me a damn phone on my wrist and you can take my money. I'll pay to just avoid having a radiation emitting device 3mm away from my crown jewels.
I am cautiously optimistic about the next MacBook Pro. I'm thinking it's going to be quite the upgrade. Which sucks as my asus PC laptop is dying right now

Dude. You know the hilo can do AES right?
So just save up the $1000 and buy treatment as you go. Might also be useful for you to pace yourself as you learn about, rather than dropping $2k on treatment only to find you overbought or bought the wrong type due to lack of understanding.
Slowly slowly catchy monkey.
