Owner of a small company I worked for came in every day at 6am so he wouldn't be stuck at home all day with his wife. Granted he sat in his office all day with his dog reading the paper and talking on the phone.

I think most people try to fit their passion into work. It doesn't seem like work and it is something you will never retire because you love it.

Retiring at 30 might be great for some people that don't really have a curious mind and enjoy learning and creating but I think everyone at some level would like to do something meaningful.

I don't think I will ever retire. Obviously you have to adapt your schedule to old age but I would still be probsbly just teaching kids when I'm 80. I don't even see myself being close to the goals I have and I would Image late 40s would be when I am doing exactly what I want.

I think this is basically what I was getting at in my post. The only thing for me is why does being curious and enjoying learning have to be in the context of a career working for someone else? I think many careers are actually an obstacle to doing those things because you are always too busy and stressed to pursue deeper meaning and purpose. I understand self-employed people never retiring or people who have very fulfilling careers. However, from my own observation and experience those types of careers aren't the norm.

And obviously this conversation is mostly theoretical. Most people have to continue working until a certain age for financial reasons. This is more of a what if conversation.
