nice review indeed.

If you think the Rhein-Main area is reasonable, you should go to the eastern half, esp. Leipzig (where Melt! is)....

Did you get to do any sightseeing?
Lot's to do around there, not least of which the wine-towns!

Exchange of $: pretty much any bank you find will do a cash $/EUR exchange. Still not the cheapest to go, but much better than the airport hosing.
Best is cards:
If you have a global no-fee ATM card, you get an exchange rate that is pretty close to the market spot price.

used to be true for travelers checks too, but no one takes those anymore, at least not in Germany, I tried it last year. Not even Amex, if you can find one of those...

Festival comments:
sound great!
the bottle-return: yes how nice, and not that hard to do.
One trick they use in many clubs over there, you get a glass/bottle ticket / chip / etc along with your extra payment.
You only get that back if both the container and the chip come back. (prevents dumpster diving, bar snatching, etc....).

At CF, they had signs asking people not to litter, but it just doesn't work.

I'm glad you pointed out the differences in the sets you'd get there vs. at other events:
I see comments for TW every year, that it's an unadventurous boring line-up, yadda yadda, the names are top-notch / the best, and we should be so lucky. So I always thought what stupid comments.

and just as a reminder:

definitely got a picture of this park/fountain area myself. we did some sightseeing. more so just walking around frankfurt and mannheim during the day mostly to the main strip, bars and red light district. we also had to take into account that TW this year was on easter weekend and they take that holiday very seriously so the cities themselves were actually quite dead until tuesday in observance of the religious holiday.

also, in regard to your comment about the lineup, those are stupid comments from people. granted the lineup is very similar year after year give or take a couple DJs, but as i stated the way you hear the DJs play at time warp, have trumped anywhere else ive heard the same DJs play outside of this event. they really take it to a whole new level.

the amount of pyro and co2 at awakenings leads me to believe that the US is lame with the laws and regulations, it's better served outside of the US anyways so i think that is a distinct difference in production quality on US soil vs EU.

It's like saying why can't EVERY beach in the USA be like Platja Salinas in Ibiza
