Oh man, what? Since you like to debate, what do you have to say?

There are people who like to experience an intimate event that is like a private party and don't mind paying the average cost of admission. Why is this such a hard concept to grasp? You guys, who I've never seen at any Trance events, are acting like $10 is going to break someones bank.

$10? I thought you said $25.

Anyways..

You're comparing the Bikkuri Lounge to a world-class Miami nightclub to make your argument.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but that doesn't make much sense.

Hyde Park Cafe here in Tampa throws "intimate" events all the time and they're $10.

This includes free parking, cheap drinks, etc. And the scene is definitely smaller here than in Orlando, IMO.

But back to my point. I just think it's a steep price to pay for this kind of party.

Have fun, though. Cheers.

Faceplant was comparing the Bikkuri Lounge to the adriatique show for 10-15 bucks at a world class club in (Miami). I was simply responding that it costs more to go to a Miami show even though the ticket price may be lower and that there are lots of hidden fee's when you go to Miami for a show.
I should have been more clear earlier. I meant paying $10 more (20 online/25 door) than what you think the ticket price should be, isn't going to break the bank of our typical attendee. As far as Hyde Park Cafe, the capacity is 1000 people. At Bikkuri it's 140 people. If the capacity were 1000, the tickets for this show would be $3-5. Estimate a booking fee for Thomas, Militant Agency's fee, Flight cost, 2 Hotel rooms, & meal for 3 people. Then add Suzy's, Robb Blak, ExoSun, VJ Omni, and a door persons fee, 2 CDJ rental, 18"Sub rental, ticket printing costs, payouts to ticket sellers and fuel. Now divide that number by 140 people. You'll see that IF the show sells out, over 80% of the funds from the ticket sales goes towards expenses. Thanks for your concerns though

Yeah I don't get any of this concern over the ticket prices either. 25 bucks isn't that much if it's a show that you are interested in seeing.

Having been to Bikkuri in the past for a trance show, I will admit that it is a fun spot for a show. The vibe is good and people there are all about the trance scene. I had a good time at the event I went to. Is the $25 comparatively high -- perhaps but it's not going to break the bank. Drink prices inside Bikkuri are very reasonable and parking is free. The small capacity does mean that the promoters do have to charge a little bit more to throw the event.

Now if it was $40+, then it would be different. But 25? Nah, if it's a show I'm interested in, it wouldn't be a problem for me to pay. One thing that I think could be improved upon is the number of DJs playing. Why do we need so many? 2 DJs is plenty. From my vantage point, it seems like a bunch of guys are just desperate to get some live mixing time at a real show -- at the detriment to the flow and vibe of the night.

Suzy Solar and Thomas Datt are the only two that need to be playing. Fewer DJs and longer sets are almost always better than cramming in every single wannabe that somehow has connections. For the 25 dollar fee, I do want to see more of Suzy and more of Datt and zero of the other guys, no offense to them but why can't they have a locals night and stay out of the lineup when a bonafide headliner comes to town?

Sorry if that sounds harsh but it's a huge pet peeve of mine when it comes to these shows where 4 or 5 DJs are booked at an Orlando gig with the early end time.

I don't think your post was harsh at all. I want the night to be the best it can be so I'm open to hearing honest feedback. The reason we've had 4 DJ's on these nights is because Suzy and I are bringing headliners to Robb Blak's existing night and he had a partner. Robb's a solid DJ, and up & coming producer whose dedicated 5 years to making this night happen. It's super cool of him to allow us to combine our vision with his.
I totally agree about the longer sets being better. Its something we've discussed and are implementing in a few shows. Robb had a partner on the night whose recently taken a leave of absence. We decided for the next 2 shows to have 2 of our DJ friends play the opening 9-10pm spot. They're both good DJ's we know and trust who have helped us out behind the scene. Indecent Noise played close to 3 hours but afterwards, the owner asked us to stop at 2:30am from now on to allow the artist time to do an encore song and then get some pics with everyone before the curfew

I hope your event does well Bri! I wish i could be there if the drive was close enough. Anyway I'll be there in spirit. Its also nice enough to have talent like that on the decks.

This night has been going on for 5 years now so we don't really need new attendees as much as we rely on the regulars and serious trance music fans.
When doing events, it's common for the promoter to keep the door/ticket sales while the bar owner keeps the profits from the bar. Making the drink prices higher makes no sense from a promoters point of view. I personally push for lower drink prices, so everyone can get their proper drink on.
As far as your promise goes... what's the flavor of the month?

You guys really only collect money off tickets? If so that's a pretty shit deal. I would never step into a business model like that especially if I'm the one putting up money for the talent.

Well Donnie, no one asked you to step into a business model like this. I don't think the promoter keeping all the proceeds from the door and presale tickets is a shit deal if you don't have to pay a venue rental or bar guarantee. I'm happy to hear your business model.

Thank you, Juan. People drive from all over the state to attend so maybe you could car pool with someone to see one of the artists you like. We have a really great vibe from it being an all trance crowd. The venue is real small so everyone has a chance to meet the artists and it's easy to talk to other clubbers. You can easily make new friends and visit with old. The night has been the only consistent trance night in Florida so its become a monthly tradition for many.

Yeah I wish my friends were up for it, I sure don't mind car pooling. Right now all my homies are into deep house and techno so we'll see.
