I would hazard to say 'mercians generally use "twenty fifteen" - it's the same with when they read numbers back to you, such as phone or part numbers - they seem to group them in to easily smaller chunks. When I speak to peeps back home they typically say "two thousand and fifteen".

However the part that doesn't make any sense about this is that 16 years ago we were all saying "nineteen ninety-nine", not one thousand, nine hundred and ninety nine". When you put them in that comparative context it seems really weird.

Of course it makes no sense to say twenty zero zero the next year, so it universally became the year 2000 and the next 9 years were "two thousand and one" etc.

I'll shut up now.
