I don't want to sound harsh but I'd be extremely confused if I were him. I wouldn't even be hurt, I'd probably think "what a girl" and shrug it off - and think you're too "high maintenance".
Why wouldn't I care?
Although I'm very extroverted, I'm not exactly gregarious: I love meeting/talking to people - I'd even talk to trees if I could - but I hardly ever go out with two or more friends. It's easier (fewer people to make arrangements with) and more pleasant (it's just easier to pick a common interest with one person than with two), and there's more room for diversity (it's easier to see different friends than different groups of friends). And I'm not an IM kind of guy because, when I'm not around people, I'd rather work.
Why would I give up on you?
You remind me of a friend I no longer care for, though I should admit he's an extreme case due to his paranoid jealousy.
I go out with most friends once every couple of months (or even less often), but I'd see him once every other week or so. Yet, he'd be incredibly annoyed if I went "too long" without seeing him. I had enough of him when he confronted me because "I wouldn't pick up my phone when he saw me going out with a mutual friend, a clear sign I was avoiding him to be with her". Oddly enough, not even my wife would throw such a tantrum. He also threw a fit when I couldn't go out with him on his birthday because my wife and I had a series of job interviews early that day and on the following morning.
This is mostly because he does nothing whatsoever with his life, so he doesn't understand why other people can't go out with him as often as he can. As a result, I've witnessed him cut ties with every single person I met through him. My turn to join them.
