Man that sucks, I really wanted to see you guys... i was there wearing my 56 shirt like i said... no one spotted me... i got there at 1:30, and left at around 4... At the beginning of the night, i was close upfront looking (more like marvelling) at MB spinning... I love her to death when she spins, just her look and her attitude, omg... but then, there were way too many people up there so i was dancing around the middle of the dance floor and pretty much stayed there all night... it seemed like as the night passed on, we were backing up slowly, by the end, we were maybe 10ft from the back bar... anyways... i would have been so happy to see you guys, and also knowing the caryn was there with you guys, i should have looked around... but you guys never told me you were going, so i thought it was pointless, i just kept an eye out, and no one walked by me...
oh well, maybe next time, you guys should do another road trip... come up here for MB again, but at the end of november, the 29th... BUT LET ME KNOW IF YOU DO!!! you too caryn

OK, I met technofreak, and technoaddict. (I think) Who was it who was up at the front with me most of the night? You were saying how you also went to Aria for MB in June, and then Forza the night after (as did I) and then Grand Bend in July...was that technofreak or technoaddict?
In any event, my boyfriend, best friend and I WILL be at Aria on November 29th. (with cute homemade tshirts, as expected! ha ha) TA meet up??

That was a killer shirt Sarah!!!!
Very fitting for that peticular night. In case your memory of that party is fuzzy (like mine) i was the one in the long sleeve white ecko shirt, with the black hat (and dancing like a maniac). I ran into Skipper at the end of Scaifes first set, and at the beginning of MB's insane set!!! She started her set off with an amazing string ofsongs.....(non of which i can name). Some of the tracks i can remember??......koenig cylinders - 99.99rmx is one i can remember. Ill have to look at a few tracklists to jolt my memory for more!
Defnately better than the last 2 times i saw her (Bittersweet 2002, The Docks....and System in July) I stayed for MB's whole set, and for part of Scaifes finale, drove home to Dundas (hour drive), had a shower, threw on a suit and went to work a 8am - 6pm shift. OUCH. Totally worth giving up the sleep. Misstress is the best Techno talent canada has to offer, although Richie Hawtin may have something to say about that statement at Turbo next month.

For anyone interested in Barbara's take on the mixer problems, here is what she wrote about the whole thing on her TRUTH page on www.relentlessmusic.com (you can find the entire entry on that site as well):
| quote: |
This past weekend I've had gigs in Toronto on Friday and New Orleans on Saturday. It had been a few months since I've played System in Toronto and about a year and a half since I've last played in New Orleans.
The night at System was very busy and, just like when I last played there in July, it was full of nice people happy to see me back in their home town.
I don't know what the crowd thought of my set on that night, but I must make people aware that I've had huge technical problems. The mixer I was playing on was broken. When I was cutting the EQs they wouldn't cut at all, and there was a huge bass feedback on one channel, and another channel (third deck) wasn't even working properly so I couldn't even use the third turntable. After about one hour into my set I couldn't deal with it anymore so they had to change the mixer. I don't know if you can imagine how hard it is to change a mixer while you play, but it isn't an easy thing to do, since when you play you need a mixer to plug the turntables in!!! So... how do you change a mixer, without shutting the sound down and without stopping playing your records..? Trust me, you can, in fact the guy who did it was very kind and good at it, but it's not an easy job!
And I just wish that in the first place this hadn't happened... because even if the mixer had been changed and I could play again properly, it had all turned me off. It took about half an hour to do, time which I couldn't be free to do what I needed to do as I had this guy in my way and a bunch of wires around me and I wasn't even free to move properly! I must say all this because when you are DJing, you need freedom! And the freedom you need doesn't only consist in having the best technical equipment to work with, but also in having the physical space around you to move and go from your record box to your decks and mixer as often as you want! And when you turn around and you have people in your way, and then when you're choosing your next record and you're suddenly strangled by your headphones wire because someone just passed behind you - between you and the decks without noticing that there was a headphones wire there, then it does - eventually - start pissing you off!! And when you get annoyed it is hard to get back to smiles and happiness, when you are a real person. DJing for me isn't a fake thing, when I am happy I really am happy, but when I'm annoyed I REALLY AM annoyed!
But the thing is that the show must go on... because the people who are dancing on the dancefloor don't know what's happening and they don't know that there's so much action going on in the DJ booth. And, I could even be right if I said that even if they knew what's going on, they have the right not to care, because after all they've paid for that bloody ticket to go and see/hear a DJ play and it's not their problem if there are technical issues, because in the first place there shouldn't be any, so they have the right not to want to feel involved! But... nevertheless, the DJ who's behind the decks in the meantime is still having problems... and even if it's not her/his fault, there's nothing to do... because the show must go on!
So, to get back to my story... yes I was annoyed and yes it changed my mood. But I had to continue playing, and to be very honest I wasn't in the mood to play certain high-energy records anymore... I was getting in a very deep mood and, for the people who were there, if you remember properly the end of my set was pretty housey and slow... I love that, please don't think there's anything wrong with that, but I just want to say to all the people who were there, that if you have noticed a weird vibe during my set, and/or if you have noticed a change in my mood and my music, and/or if you have disliked the second half of my set, it was due to all these technical problems and I want to apologize... on behalf of the club!!
Half an hour doesn't seem like a long time, but when you are performing and you are supposed to be in a creative bubble but you can't be due to all these sound issues, then trust me, half an hour is a very long time!!
So the whole night could have been better. But these guys (Mike Greco and Mark Scaife) at System are very kind and they treat me very well! In fact, they have just done their job by reading the rider closely and put the same mixer that the rider required, but they've just had a bad luck with a rental. I don't want to complain about them, I am just explaining THE TRUTH to the crowd.
