I missed this before.

See, I consider that pretty fucking rude. You're getting free booze at a friend's wedding, knowing they're paying for it, and you're ordering doubles? Or getting so smashed that the bartender cuts you off? I don't know how late your reception started, maybe 10:30 was late, but the point still stands (though I know you know how to party, so I just assumed 10:30 was lame).

Personally... I really hate weddings, lol. I can't say I've ever been to one that I liked. Been to some interesting ones, though. The fire-twirling was cool at this one, but there's nothing like having a couple of male transvestite strippers come out, rather late when everyone was drunk and dancing, and perform to 'Abba - Dancing Queen' DID NOT AT ALL impress the bride's super conservative family that was actually paying for the whole thing

Edit: I also have a big problem with destination weddings, especially international, but I won't get started on that because I tend to rant a bit

I agree, but it's not really worth getting bothered by it when you want to remember the day as being really fun. The guy who got cut off was exactly who we expected would, and we knew drinks would get wasted and people would be overindulgent, etc. No big deal, we accounted for it. Everyone had a good time. I don't agree with cash bars at weddings. Can't afford to booze up your guests, don't do it until you can imo.

And yes, 10:30 was early. Dinner was over by 8:30-9:00, and everything shut down at 1am. And in fact the bartenders asked if they could cut the bar off at 12:30 so we could actually get out of there at 1,lol. The venue coordinator was like "Uh, your guests aren't really slowing down" lol.

I'm going to a Polish wedding next summer. This story is not remotely out of character with what I've heard. I will be sure to give my liver the last rites.

I had a great time at the wedding over the weekend. Probably one of the most disorganized ones though. Open bar was plus but it was all cheap booze. Like Jose Cuervo tequilia (mexican wedding) and some others I never heard of. Little did i know that the reception was right on the border of the "hood" here in LA. I ubered it to the venue and the driver asked, "what kind of wedding is this? Are you sure you want me to drop you off in this area?". It was all good though. Pretty sure I made an impression on the families. Whether good or bad is TBD. My co-worker (groom) will let me know in a couple of days.

That's fucking lightweight compared to most Polish or god forbid russian weddings. A bottle of vodka each? I probably did close to that amount of alcohol at the last wedding I was at over the course of the night. And Irish? Fuck me. The last Irish wedding I went to, ended up at a lock in at a pub and 3 ambulances were called for alcohol poisoning.

The rudest thing I ever saw was at a friends wedding in Malibu. It was a beachhouse and they had a cute and fairly short ceremony, then a meal, and quite literally, right after the meal - I mean forks down on table - people got their coats and started leaving. It started at 2pm and 6pm there were only 4 of us left aside from the Bride and groom.
