I believe (well actually I know for a fact) that in the 90's when he was coming up he loved the music and made most of it himself.
It then got to a point where dance music could make you serious money. In the 90's that meant a few grand for a set - I remember when Junior vasquez was paid $60,000 for his final performance and it as such a big deal that it hit mainstream news. Now $60,000 doesn't get you 30 mins of any of the top 20 Dj's.
When Tiesto realized the money that could be made, he just said fuck it, time to cash in. All his tracks from that point on have been made by ghost writers and the funniest part of it is, that most people who got to know "Tiesto" when they were really just listening to a branding team and a puppet. He just showed up to fistpump and collect the check, like his SHM bretherin did.
He really doesn't give a fuck anymore. The offer of $40m a year will do that to you.
