The thing is the cost of living in NY is much greater than most of the United States, and most of the world for that matter. It is not only clubbing that is more expensive here: how about rent? drinks? eating out? everything costs more here. Clubbing is not exempt from that. And as an owner of a business (i.e club owner) I would charge as much as I think I could in order to net me the highest profit. WHy is a clubowner any different from a restuarant owner? It is America--the land of opportunity and capitalism. Should these owners worry about how it is hurting the scene? c'mon. The way I see it these owners know that PvD will attract such a large demand that if a few people are turned off by the high prices it, it isnt a problem because the demand is so great that there are many others that will take their place. And they know this because of past history and present. PvD tix are almost sold out.
