With soundforge, u have to go into ur control panels (the sound menu) and turn down the line input from there.....that should solve ur clipping problems....

my suggestion would be to not use your unreliable computer for recording and instead get an MP3 recorder. There are some out there that aren't too bad in price and the quality is going to be about what you would get with your soundcard if not better. Though if you can't afford more RAM when it is at one of it's all time lows, then I doubt that you can afford an MP3 recorder.
