There is not going to be any DJ version of the new techs as such. They're only releasing it as a audiophile TT, which in fairness was what the 1210mk2 was launched as.

There will be a non GAE version but that will still not be a "DJ" product as such.

You go to Pioneer's site, and it's all controllers. Except, that's not what I see anywhere. The NXS model was important as a reflection of the time, but didn't offer anything substantial over the CDJ2000. Now there's a second NXS model, and I'd offer the same criticism.

First question: are these NXS models becoming prevailing, or are people still sticking with the CDJ2000?

Second: Are laptops (thus, Traktor, Scratch, etc.) preferred?

What is the state of today, both clubs and festivals?

Laptops have gone kinda out of fashion in professional DJ circles. At bigger clubs you're probably going to see the newest CDJ models but smaller underground clubs might stick to the CDJ2000s, it's not like it's a huge difference.

Agreed. I still love using my laptop purely from a track organizing perspective, although if I eventually move to a flash drive enable cdj (I’m still rocking my 800 mk2s) I could see myself ditching the laptop.

Seriously, I've been waiting for a non control vinyl DVS for so long and this one looks like it's going to make Serato a software only business.

That looks really cool, based on the same tech used in a phone it appears. That would take performance DJing in totally different directions, I'd love to try that!

Netting out: partially boring, same-old, same-old, and the occasional unique piece of gear?

I value the CDJs highly, great pieces of gear. Software without proper controllers lags behind.

Perhaps part of the conversation should include non-turntable-based equipment. Although that seems to be more the realm of fests and such.

It's not a massive step in a new direction but the massive pointers for me are:

1, No timecode, no skipping and no needle bullshit for digital music.
2, Much more robust and not prone to skiping
3, I hate the damn 1k tone when you mix anywhere outside of a loud environment (i.e. at home). It got to the point I stopped using DVS because an hour of that damn tone would give me a headache.
4, Far faster plug an play in live situations. You just plug the unit in to free mixer channels and drop the sensor on the platter. Much easier to go from each source.

The other point is that they're saying (and the vids indicate) it's as tight, if not more than DVS

what happened to traktor they used to bundle le with shit now its non existant, serato and vdj are the main third party software and rekordbox for pioneer. I've tried all the software I still think traktor is the best.

I think NI only bundle it with their own kit like the Kontrol series of controllers and DJ consoles etc. They sell it on it's own for $99 which isn't bad value but there's plenty of copies about if needed.

Tbh, Serato and Traktor were always pretty similar in my book, but I found Traktor a little more customizable.
