I also have to temper my expectations and remind myself that I wasn't much better, even into my early 20s. My paternal grandfather was a strongly, healthy, hard working man all his life (and in all of my memories). Between that, and the hereditary coronary heart disease that runs so strongly in the males on that side, he went down hill for 8 years. I watched him go from a 6'1", 190ish lb. man who welded and worked on his farm every day to a shell of a man who was nearly blind, had no balance, was cold all the time, and whose clothes hung off him from weight loss that he couldn't seem to stop no matter what. He was in the hospital recovering from carotid artery surgery when he elected to also have a heart valve replaced. I was so hung up on my "social life" and hanging out with friends that I only wen to see him once in the hospital...and my dad had to practically beg/force/coerce me to go. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. He died a few days later. I have very few TRUE regrets in life...but that is one of them.

Not to invalidate your feelings of regret, but that's just the immature, developing brain man. Can't blame yourself for not doing something you literally were not equipped to do. I hear ya though, I had some awful moments with my mother before she jumped ship mentally and went into long term care at 64 years old. I try not to dwell on the negative things and have faith she knew how much I appreciated her. That shit will eat a hole in your heart and mind if you let it.

I've made my peace with my young, stubborn selfishness. My dad was really close to my grandfather, so I think it hurt him pretty bad. I explained my regret and sorrow to dad a few years ago, and I think it did him some good to hear me own it. I know I felt better. God...tomorrow is going to DRAG ASS.

The procedure went well. It was a long day, and they were behind schedule an hour to an hour and a half. We completely misunderstood what the doctor had said before, so it could be another week before we have the results from pathology. If they come in early, he is going to call us. Otherwise, we have a follow up on the 13th.

OMG JFC that's frustrating. Glad the procedure itself went well.

It seems like you're being pretty patient, unless I'm misreading you. What else can ya do really?
