I thought this thread had died after I thanked Vernon. Anyway, here's how my first month went:

  • Sample Subscription: This is what I use the most, and it's a lot of fun.

There are loads of quality sample packs, and they're all sorted according to instrument, genre, key, tempo, planet alignment, you name it. It's quite easy to navigate, although I tend to press the arrow keys whenever I want to go up or down and this leads to a cacophony of samples playing at the same time.

Also, it comes with its own download software, and it reminds me of the old Beatport Downloader (or whatever it was called). It sorts all your samples in different folders, and it's much more organised than I'd ever be

  • The Collab System: It's apparently a good way to collaborate with other artists. Never used it, but it looks quite handy.

  • Synth Rental: Haven't tried this one yet either, but I've never seen a single person who doesn't like it.
So, yeah, I guess this all boils down to "Lira found a nice place to download sample packs"

I don't think that's their thing. You should probably head to Beatport for stems.

Yeah Beatport don't have it & neither do dubious Russian websites. I've been looking for stems (it's the a capella I want) of that track since the ravin' 90s.

Has anyone compared Kick 2 vs PunchBox? Yeah I'm going to try the demos eventually, just want to hear some opinions. Yeah I know the trick of layering samples together to get the sound you want but I'm getting lazy. Also watched a video of Rob Papen's Raw today and that had some seriously good hardstyle kicks in it.

I got Punchbox today and I can't say I dig it as much as Kick2. I think PB is a bit dirtier/grittier, but that's just first impression.

For me, Kick2 has a killer workflow and intuitive envelope control that makes it a joy to use. PB feels a bit clunky.

Thanks for your feedback, tehlord. Lol, to confuse matters more there is actually Punch-BD from Rob Papen as well which has up to 6 layers. Don't know if I'm going to bite--I mean the $ could go towards my future TR8S (or other groovebox). I tend to use presets rather than create my own sounds, but I do try use custom leads or bass to leave my signature.
