Whoa, I had no idea. This is the sort of stuff I like about the Olympics

Ester Ledecka's similar upset was also great.

Finishing one of the last "normal" weekends we'll have for a while with a few Modelo Negra and "Blood Father," starring Mel Gibson. When he's not a mouthy, drunken, Jew-hater he can be fun to watch. The bank is closed tomorrow for Presidents' Day in ze States, so it's a 3-day weekend. Surgery for the chemo port got moved to Wednesday, but that works out, because that means she will get her bone marrow biopsy while she is under for the port. Hopefully that means a little less pain. More appointments on Thursday and Friday, then, barring dee-saster, chemo starts the next week. I reckon that's when shiat will get real. Thanks, in advance, for listening to me bitch and moan. I wear my heart on my sleeve, so just slap me and tell me to STFU if I get too mouthy, COR whores.

This might be an obtuse question, but how will this affect your wife's work/job? Does she get any sort of disability or long term sick leave? Apologies, just wondering what your guys' new "normal" might be like...and how illness makes one realize that even mundane life can be taken for granted.

She's worked only part-time for years, as she has home schooled my younger stepdaughter (now 16) since 2nd grade. However, it will greatly affect our income, as I just don't make enough to pay all of our bills. Her health ins. alone is over $500 a month. Fortunately, we don't have a mortgage or car payments at this time.

Fuck me. I think about this all the time when I take care of really sick patients; the way all the minutiae of daily life can compound one's worries and/or fears.

We'll make it work. We have a great support network, especially with family. I know at least half a dozen immediate family members I could call right now, and they'd all make a monthly premium payment. Although this is the most serious problem/illness we've faced in our 14 years, it's still "first world" in the sense that at least we HAVE insurance...and a first class hospital/oncology center...and the resources to get to and from treatments...and family/friends, all willing to chip in and support her/us.

Yes ma'am. I for sure don't want to give the impression that it's all bitch 'n moan/hopeless. Yes, we are both scared sober, but at least we have many positives to focus on as we go through this.

We had a few days without medals and today our women had their B final of the relay in short-track for 5th-8th place, so nothing to win today.
Turned out to become a crazy day for Jorien Ter Mors.
Last race at short-track, set a world record, win the bronze medal and become the first woman to win two medals (gold and bronze) at different sports in the same Winter Olympics (something Ledecka also can achieve, only not as first):

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/olympics/ter-mors-medals-in-2-different-sports-at-same-winter-games

But I can understand most people mist this as this was simply a stunning performance today
