I hate mixing in b/w genres of music

I do like everyone else said, I play breaks then I just switch into Rap and Hip an don't even try to match beats.

But switching in same genre will get whispers amongest the crowd. When I was in HS, the DJ did that for prom and I heard it right of the start. Stuffed sounded horrible, everytime next song came in everyone stoppped then danced again. Maybe HS students don't know alot about mixing but if they have to stop dancing through your show, they will notice, trust me.

As for mixing hip hop and rap, I suck

Anyone have any advice on how to besides practice

I have a couple of friends that spin hip hop

They suggest planning and memorizing a set... know when to cue in, how your going to do it etc..

Mixing hip hop is not about beatmatching its mainly about figureing out various methods of getting the next track in... for eg

a scratch scratch cue into would work, then cut the other track out immediatley

stop the other track, go in with a gradual start with the next track

beatmatch for 2 or 3 seconds then fade out..

there is soo many methods.. its mainly aobut knowing the songs and knowing when to cue in.. and with hip hop its really not so difficult

The normal people at HS don't know shit about mixing.. its the minority who do know that will laugh their arses off..!

You can mix pop and R&B, just like any dance music just as long the BPM's are similar, or then you'll have to fade out..

The first time i mixed shitly with pop and r&B, i was stressin' even though ppl didn't give a shit.. so if it really gets to your head just pickup mixing the stuff!
