The "tech house" on the Beatport chart is about as far underground as the International Space Station.
It's obvious that the commercial end of dance music is now so big it has its own distinct strata. The EDM guys on this list obviously game the shit out of their online profile, of which the DJ Mag poll is part, but they exist in a higher level of aggressive marketing and commercial optimisation that has effectively cut them off from the "real" club scene even at its most overground. Their's is the world of stadiums, mega festivals and the biggest bottle service Vegas clubs. The Beatport Top 100 is the Elrow level of club music - for 18 year olds yes, but still vaguely connected to the mechanisms of the actual club scene.
I half expect DJ Mag to shelve this poll soon. Like the RA poll, it no longer represents the music its parent publication covers, to the point it's actually harming their image. I think the only reason they still do it is because it's DJ Mag's only calling card. Dare they can it and lose the associated profile it gives them?
