too much focus on melody, not enough on driving beats.

trance used to actually put you in a trance, nowadays it just makes etards want to jerk themselves off while frolicking in a field of flowers

of course theres still good underground trance out there.. just harder to find the good stuff sorting through the crap..

Cream and Mos cds always will be cheese. If you look at their tracklist and think whats wrong with trance, then whats wrong with you? This year has been a good year for tracks, I dont think trance is dieing. Now that the european summer is over i think we will start to see a lot of good tracks come out in a few months.

I also think comparing now to 1999 isnt fair. Trance was new then, of course everyone was going OMFG I DIE, I CRY since it was the new sound. Now that everyone is a little jaded after listening for 3-4 years people always want new tracks that make them feel the way their first trance track did. Unfortunatly its not going to happen.

I dont think progressive will take over, but if it did i wouldnt be bothered, most of it is good stuff. I like both trance and progressive. As well as some house, and some techno. Everyone puts too much focus on the genre, narrowing it down too much "I like hard acid uk tech-trance".

I like good music.

I actually disagree, i think it's been a good year for trance, you just have to llok past the crap that seems to be in your face everywhere you go. ie mos comps etc. It only takes a look at different peoples fav's on here and there seems to be lots of good releases atm.

I suppose that depends on what you like though.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Well, actually, I probably could have, but there's no need to be redundant. I agree totally with you man.

I know that a lot of stuff is heading commercial these days, and it's because people have spotted a trend, but instead of trance shifting it's style within the genre it's more like a new genre, cheesyeuroshite has been created (or just borrowed from countries that it is alreasy established in).

It's just businesmen (not musicians) spotting an easily exploitable trend. I mean, if you look at the year for uplifting productions I think there have been some quality top notch ones, (Solarcoaster, I'm Alone, If You Want Me just off the top of my head) and It'l continue till the end of the year. I reckon you just gotta look for it.

Not to mention the development of other styles even further (Prog and Hard Trance to name the two that have grown the most for me).

On another note though, when a genre is relatively new all of the sounds are new and everything your listening to is a new experience. But after we've been listening for a few years now, just banging an uplifting synth over the same old same old chord progression is just gonaa piss people off. If you think we're not hearing enough hands in the air quality shit, it maybe because people simply aren't making anything refreshing enough...

you've hit the nail on the head there. I got sick of the general commercialisation of trance about a year ago, hence set up my own site and will start club night next year.

Like you say it's just a case of searching harder and not purchasing the obvious hands in the air type cheese. E.g. If you bought any Jurgen Vries then your taste in trance is quite raw and under-developed.

Another thing is that few people realise if you're going to market trance and want to appeal to the general public, you cannot ever ever ever call it trance.

Cool

we get the same bloody winge again and again. trance music is better, not worse. classic 99 and 00 stuff was amateur and sounds far inferior to todays trance, a perfect example being the 2002 remix of out of the blue. there are quiet periods of trance all the time and releases held back, etc. so shat ya wingin and prepare for some quality christmas trance
