It has been here for over 600 years. There is a difference between Carnaval in North-Brabant and Limburg. North-Brabant is Burgundain Carnaval and ours is more Rhenish Carnaval like in the Cologne area in Germany. In Belgium there's also Carnaval by the way.

You used to play this one on a regular basis (can't remember the remix though!)

I always played the Richard F Dub. That was a ch00n.

Wow, I've been missing out on Carnival...the Brazilian one is the only one that gets mentioned around here.

I like how they bothered to sub the laughter too, hehe!

Haha, we can relate to that, except our Maas is called São Francisco, and these people go North around here

This picture below shows nicely how cultural different the people in the south are compared to the north of the country as it's a picture of Carnaval Parades this year. The wide blue area is the province of Noord-Brabant, the small one with more red and orange squeezed between Belgium (Leuven) and Germany (Koln) is Limburg where I live.

Is it because that's where most Catholics live?

We used to be Catholic-only country, but Protestantism has grown a lot - it doesn't seem to have influenced carnival thus far, but it would make sense if it remained strong in Catholic strongholds around here... And I wonder if it's what happened there.

Yes it is, below the main rivers most are still Catholics, although it's getting less and less as in many countries. Luckily Carnaval remains pretty popular and also the youngsters keep picking it up.
It's a few days of fun and it puts everybody on the same level, which is a nice thing.

I agree, I just found it curious that there was an apparent correlation both here and there

In Rotterdam there is a Brazilian (Summer)-Carnaval parade in the summer. I guess it's way to cold and windy for that now.
Also heard Romario was guest in Eindhoven this weekend

Lot's of German songs here, this one I heard a couple of times, works well when played loud, my ears are ringing...

This one won the annual Carnaval song contest over here, well more to show a bit of the fun (or not): https://youtu.be/8u1trJRC724

In Germany and also in Brabant the parade wagon/couches are much bigger than here, it's really stunning what they make, like here:

https://youtu.be/s8uSK3-LKLU?t=416

https://youtu.be/4uAEO_00jXs?t=654

One of the youngster groups of our town have a toilet paper cannon on their wagon. When driving back to our town yesterday they left a trace in the trees at the side of the road: toilet paper hanging everywhere

4-1 now. Fuck Madrid. About time someone else won the bloody thing. Even though I have won about £75 by betting on them over the last couple of seasons.

Finally the money for once didn't win.
Excellent play by Ajax, who were at their best, and had some luck too of course.
As Ramos took another yellow card in the first match, as a result missing this one and thinking they would win anyways, ha ha. Fucked up decision.

That Ajax Madrid game was a thing of magic.

Madrid got POUNDED on the Bernabeu home turf and every single one of those Ajax goals was world class. Yes, Madrid were unlucky with the woodwork but they played it wrong and it showed.

I think it's a great thing for football to see the resurgence of Ajax and they well deserved the win. That final goal was pure gold - Thibault is 6'6" with one of the longest reaches in football history and there was absolutely fuck all he could do about that top corner.
