I also get the impression that the cruder these mixes, the better, as it delivers a more 'real n raw' feel as it moves from one block of music to the next, incompatible block, like you're scanning through a personal CD the DJ burned in their teenage years. The tracklistings are sometimes nearly as large, but, in general, the statement mix seems in many ways the opposite of the concept mix.

So, glorified Spotify playlists, basically.

Which totally makes sense in the Streaming Age.

S’all about the vibe man, all about that mutha lovin’ vibe.

Lotta people wanna feel like they’re at a basement afterparty where the talent is digging up dusty b-sides and serving up hot wax on a pair of tech 12’s, working it out with a few nasty twists of the rotary and delivering the grit they crave.

And I still can’t tell if any of this is a skill or not.

The DjRUM ones spring to mind, although I'm not aware of him doing one since 2016. Certainly the one he did in 2012 for Clash Magazine will probably go down as my favourite mix of the decade.

Also, since Patrice Baumel's been mentioned, I actually think he does this to a fault on his mix CDs. On his GU release last year there's something like 25 tracks on each disc, which is over double what you would classically get on a GU release, and it became more of a hyper-fiddled mash-up mix that didn't really flow. It was a similar story on his Balance CD.

I was actually thinking of Djrum but he definitely seems like an outlier.

And FWIW, I didn't necessarily specifically mean mixes that stitch together a ton of tracks but just mixes where it's clear that a great amount of preparation was spent on track choice and sequencing in general. My favorite techno mix of the decade is still Ben Klock's Berghain 04 from 2010. The pacing isn't crazy fast but it really zooms in on a very specific warm, hazy abstract afterhours mood via perfect track selection and sequencing. Everything is set up so specific that you can just tell that he spent a really long time on it, not to mention pretty much all tracks were exclusives at the time. It uses dancefloor tracks to tell a story that's very far away from the actual dancefloor and could only exist as a prepared studio mix that just seems rare in the age of Boiler Room.

meh some decent tunes and some absolutely diabolical ones. but then tech house is the most fascist inspired funkless music on the planet even more than gabba (actualy there's quite a lot of very funky gabba like nasenbluten, e d cologne etc) so im not surprised I was left cold by it. you lot should check out josey rebelle's EM. now that's some serious tunes for the london househeads.

blimmin weirdos who wants a journey mix in 2019 i want some **** abusing the crossfader like its no ones business. everyone can do a genre hopping mix at home but that don't mean jack shit if you have to think about that mix three months before playing it in a club. DJ Rupture still the gold standard for this but noone learns.

no no this is far more serious than you think. trance caused brexit. Trance is a sinister kunt-lickers cult spreading its tentacles all over the entire mass cultural ecosystem by ridding the white nationalist movement of hen-pecked husbands. being against the white nationalist movement it is utterly essential that I ensure that the movement collapses from infidelity rather than being ghettoised to the far right fringe, or much worse, assimilated into the liberal democratic apparatus. i was once ensnared by the trance cult. I believed Humate Love Stimulation Paul Van Dyk mix and Cosmic Baby Heavens tears were some of the finest works of art known to man, utterly Serene with their shimmering futurist qualities. then I saw the light and became an occult super star dj in Egypt and realised that futurism wallowed in the hypernostalgist impulse, rather than transcending it. the only good trance is anti-hippy gangsta trance.
