I recently got the Akai Force for my drums and it’s now quickly becoming the centerpiece of my studio. Super intuitive, plus Ableton Live integration is awesome, syncs with Ableton Link and it can totally control Live. And you can even install an ssd for up to 2tb of storage on the unit, loving it.

🐻 This Nektar Aura looks pretty mang.

https://nektartech.com/nektar-aura-beat-composer/

Goon from NI forums has this to say: Aura is great for Drum sequencing, Maschine is a better all rounder, with a software package that hits the spot. The Aura only comes with Nektarine, which is similar in concept to Komplete Kontrol, but it is clunky and takes some working out. the Aura does have the onboard sequencer which is very very powerful, but you will need to transfer that to your DAW at some point. I cannot comment on DAW integration yet, as Nektar are still working on DAW integration for LIVE which I use.

I got the Maschine mk3 in the end, still getting to grips with the basics but it's cool so far!

🦉 Last year I was considering getting a drum machine but I ended up getting a Traktor Kontrol S2 instead. Figured I can use the pads like a drum machine anyhow. If I had the dosh I'd get a workstation keyboard. Always loved that way of working. Another option. Trackers.

🐻 Beat jamming must feel good on ultra-responsive Sanwa buttons. I want one but it's a non-essential so I'm not getting one.

I swear by my Digitakt these days. Such a potent and inspiring little box. Great DAW integration with Overbridge too.

Ah great to hear. Yes, still in Melbz. Life is pretty good considering the times! Haven't been too affected really. Spend most of my spare time home working on music and stuff anyway, and work has been pretty consistent, so my routine hasn't changed too much.

Thankfully I haven't been too badly affected here either, but everything is still pretty fucking weird, lol.
