I've seen J00F play many times and he's very good at what he does. I've witnessed him absolutely burn a club to the ground before. But he's not a deep DJ and essays like this are just a bit cringe. He's deep if you're a trance fan who's only ever listened to Armin Van Buuren. He's not deep if you actually know the history of this music. And for all of his years of criticising the direction of trance, he's very firmly maintained his connections with the promoters and agencies in the trance scene and he's done very well out of staying in that scene but standing on the edge and telling everyone he's the deep and underground option. It rings hollow after a while.
Can you guys suggest a few Joof alternatives/true deep trance DJs? I lost track. In was 2003 when I last paid attention.

Perfect. Glancing at it now. Just the sort of thing I need before getting back into my own research, so to speak. Just wondering what those with fingers on the pulse have been listening to, so this is great. Not too concerned about Deep as such, I span most trance/techno (or at least whatever the 1997 definitions of those words were

Adam Pits, Lisense, Maruwa, Solar Suite, DJ Life, Aiden Francis, etc.
I've always enjoyed most of his sets and all the times I've seen him live. If you're not into his "sound" I get it, but his programming of long sets is top notch for me and I'm a fan
+1
he's the best at that dark driving prog/trance/techno sound (what ever you want to call it). When he REALLY gets going in the late hours are my favorite. He can bang it out like no other
