Contrary to J I continue to obsess autistically over the circa 98-02 era stuff & want to know everything (and still discover good records I missed previously). I'm generally a little jealous at the few guys who apparently have the means and opportunities to buy shitloads of acetates from DJs and other insiders. I do own a bunch of rare test pressings/white labels some of which were on big name turntables long ago, but nothing that special. If I had to pick one title though, I'd gladly take a cut of Junkie XL - Red / Heat, the very long versions.

On a side note, I do think that Spaniard's "gazillion ID's" reflects a somewhat overly romantic view of Sasha and his peers' sets from the golden years. I think we know most (with regard to recorded sets, to be sure), and what remains to be ID'd will likely turn out to be nothing very special.

Just curious if there is any dollar value to these rare record tracks? I remember a long time ago (2001?), a record shop was selling an early white label Sasha track for like $40+. Out of my budget unfortunately. I remember after listening, the record store clerk carefully picked up the label and returned it the safe shelf it was being stored at.

I can't speak for everyone here but to clarify, I guesstimated the amount of ID's completely arbitrarily. It could be that once I do a thorough inspection, there's maybe 10 ID's between Sasha and Digweed that I really want. I can't say because I'm not going to look through my archives.

Most of the best tracks I've heard Sasha play have already been IDed or are versions of those tracks that I'll probably never have. Even the tracks that I would want IDed probably won't sound as good as when I first heard them in Sasha's set so I'm not overly enthused to go searching.

I remember years ago I received a message out of the blue from someone offering me a lot of acetates, I think they may once have been (supposedly) Tiesto's if I recall correctly. No idea why they picked me; I don't spend that kind of money on a few slates of black.

I once spent something like 15 or 18 EUR on a white label promo of Lemon8's second Inner Sanctuary EP as a shameful exception to my principles, I guess (but I *had* to have that particular record in white label form). Then there was no other copy available for a while, but in the meantime someone has apparently paid 40 EUR for a copy, and two copies are currently up for sale for up to 40 pounds. Is it worth that much? No, but sellers can't help themselves (and there are far worse cases, such as https://www.discogs.com/release/152...Out-In-The-Shed).

The number has certainly come down a lot in the last ten years. I see sets reposted by people like rave_on on SoundCloud, and once barren tracklists are now abundantly populated with full track details.

That was another reason behind my answer - most of the tracks are out there these days if you're willing to procure them. Most of the genuine IDs are either rotting in obscurity for good reason or are unreleased edits, test pressings and so on. For example, in a lot of sets where Sasha or Diggers play Heller & Farley - The Rising Sun (Bedrock Remix), the track doesn't have the vocal samples over the top. Clearly this was an early version of the track pressed up for road-testing. It's rare, it's unreleased, but it's not remotely interesting.

After listening to the whole track, I wouldn't say it's jaw-dropping, but it's a decent B side that works well in a set. The buildup reminded me of LSG - Train of Thought, but I guess it's a coincidence. I'm assuming the other 2 tracks in this release are just as good, if not better to make this an affordable purchase.

I think I've told this story before, but I was sat in a random pub in Manchester a couple of years back and got talking to the bloke next to me, and it turned out he was the guy who'd auctioned off Nick Warren's vinyl collection. The phrase that pricked me ears was that he was driving to Dundee the next morning to deliver a load of acid house records to someone.

Anyway, he mentioned at the time that Sasha was in talks to do the same thing, so I've known this was coming for a while. The Amplifyd auction looks like it's just the tip of the iceberg.
