hey

guys I see you all don't really like hip hop

and that's ok

or it's more like , you don't like to spin it

here's my advice to you : these bastards want hip hop , give it to them !!!
here's a good track :

RJD2 - FUCK HIP HOP ( it's actually a hip hop track ) ( sometimes titled F F H )

( here's a win media sample : http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserve...k=08/source=wmf )

it'll freak em out and maybe get the vibe in the place shaking but at least you'll have played them some hip hop

I also got another good idea :

play
KRS ONE - Ova here
( its on the prophets vs profits album it's DOPE )
basically the track says : the real hip hop is over here , but at the same time the whole track disses NELLY ( that ****** rapper ) during the whole track
( for info on the album : http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=product&id=1921887657 )

seriously I say play them a couple raw rap tracks and make these wussies cry and beg for some trance

I remember when I used to dj for crappy middle school parties back in the day and playing them techno and shit didn't cut it I always pulled out the underground rap OMGGGG would they beg for some electronica after that...

I SAY SHOCK THEM !!!!

if you need suggestions on brutal hip hop tracks just ask me

i feel your pain man. i used to dj highschool parties and whatnot. all anyone wanted was pop and "hip hop" (i wouldnt even call the shit they call hip hop, hip hop, fucking nelly, ja rule, jennifer lopez, that shits all just poppy hip hop). so my nights would be horrible, just fading back and forth playing top 40 song after top 40 song. there was no point in even beatmatching or anything cuz no one knew the difference.
a few times i would get a request for sandstorm (hey its better than playing ludacris or nsync) and id play that, and everyone was loving it, then id try to go into some other mainstream club techno, and that'd kill it.
so, anyway, the money was good for that shit, but i had a horrible time so i got out of it.
being a DJ, you have to cater to the croud, you gotta keep them dancing. thats what its all about. just try not to put yourself in situations where you have to play shit that you dont enjoy.
being a dj, you gotta love giving making the crowd happy. i could careless about a bunch of highschool fucks who get all giddy about it getting "hot in herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre"

lmao Dude you make perfect sense. They want it? GIVE IT TO THEM! Until they want you to stop because they're sick of it...and then they'd rather hear some trance instead of that commercial shit. I mean what are they going to say? You're giving them what they want...

I say give them TWO ( at the most ) RAW hip hop tracks
and they will die ! you'll clear the dance floor out faster then you did with the trance

AND THEN ! bring on YOUR sound

that's the deal , people can't relate to *real* music ....

so try to play them some accesible trance as well or you'll be heading nowhere !

that's the problem
people think they know what they like, but they are slaves to muchmusic and mtv and any other mainstream station shoving this shit down their throats

i really had to laugh one day
i was watching muchmusic here in canada
there was a phone call and this girl was asking something about why they didn't play that much pop music anymore
and the guy didn't know what to say

heh... pop music is short for popular music... which right now is all this bling bling shoot a gangster homie music

which makes running a true top 40 radio station right now horribly difficult, because then you're competing with the urban stations that are popping up all over the place
running a top 40 station right now will cause you to lose listeners to the urban stations cause you're playing this "rap" but then you also are playing stuff that isn't rap, such as nickleback and linkin park, which is being played on almost every rock station
so you subject your listeners to different forms of music, they find something they like and then go to another station that will give them everything they like without subjecting them to a genre that isn't their taste...

sorry for getting into radio theory again...
just explaining music trends and how we as djs can benefit from understanding how music trends work and how to anticipate what will be the "next big thing"

but hopefully someone will get something out of that

This Hip-Hop stuff makes me realy angry!!!!

The equipment(DJM-600 and M3d's) is not worth any fucking hip-hop tunes. They should be playing it on some bad stanton tt and a 2 channels mixer worth 100$

I think you just should have throwed out 100 e`s out to thre crowd and started to play Thrillseekers - Synsasthesia (Vocal remix)

If that wouldn`t work something is wrong with thoose people......

You really can't blame it on people because all they like is hiphop. The media has brainwashed everyone. Everywhere around them is MTV, Radio stations, etc etc. Its become a cultural thing and thats all anyone is exposed to. Guarantee that if any of them went to one huge event in Europe such as Trance Energy , that they would have a completely different view on music.

This again proves how different each continent, no even each country is.

If I'd be to play hiphop on a gig, I would be immediately thrown out (and I'm talking a normal gig here, with people from all ages, that are in no way club people or whatsoever). I still remember some gig I spun at to help a friend out (his boss wanted to throw a private party for the firm because they made big bux that year or something like that).
So I show up, wasn't even near the dj booth, when the boss walks up to me and says : "don't even try to play that umf umf music here, that's shit youngsters listen to, we want some real music!". Well I convinced him I could play a few trance tracks, because there HAD to be some people that liked that in the crowd (where would the world have gone to otherwise). So after some time I slowly start to play some dance (Faithless always seems to get the people going) and work my way up (or down?) to the harder and deeper stuff. The dancefloor is packed. When I wanted to stop the trance/techno stuff to switch back to "their real music" again, I get a lot of angry looks and they ask me to keep spinning harder and harder stuff...
At the end they had to stop the party because some youngsters in the neighbourhood heard the noise and wanted to come in and party (I heard they even wanted to pay, but the organisator didn't want unknown people so he shut it down. Shame on him, he could have made even more benefit hehehe). And all this gave me a real good feeling : I played them my music, and they saw the light . If I have converted but even one guy or girl from the crowd to the joys of trance, I'm happy .
If you play hiphop here, or that R&B stuff that's always on top of the charts here, you have a good method to clear the floor here.

Come to think again, trance is mainstream here. Half of the charts is trance (and yeah I'm talking about stuff like AvB, Marco V, Push here, not only dance).

that sucks dude... i had a similar incident happen to me...

the first time i was EVER asked to dj, was at a house party. first off, i didnt even know the person that i was dj'ing for. plus they were all much older than me, i was like 18 at the time. they were all ranging from 22-27. now, this was in a townhouse, no place for people to dance, i was just to add background music. not a problem, since it was the first time i played in front of people. now, after about an hour and a half, nobody could give two shits that i was there. the only ones who cared, were my friends, who came to see me spin, and the host of the party, who was just being nice. after many drinks i started getting pissed, and throw on a cd, and chilled out for a bit. there were some 'thug' lookin white guys there, talking shit, and i mentioned to one of my friends that i bet one of them would ask me to play like nelly of something. so after like a hour break, i got back on the decks. not 30 minutes later, that same wigger came up to me, and asked if i had any nelly. I COULDNT BELIEVE IT. i started laughing my balls off. i was like 'sorry dude, deal with it' after everyone had had enough to drink, the girls started dancing. and by the end of the night, the 'thugs' had left, and the chicks were rockin on! it was an interesting night to say the least.

but i agree... FUCK HIP-HOP!

i would like to find all these wanna-be hiphop 'artists' and blow up thier ghetto shit and redrum thier over-sized-ass ho's.

sorry to hear what happened to you... my response would have been more direct, and probably would have incited a small riot, but i'd never let myself go as far down as spinning hiphop to please people.

It's a very familiar scene. At all the parties here it's hip hop. My 4 years at SB here, I saw only 1 trance party and they were lookin for a DJ (unfortunately i did not have enuf records to spin at that party). that's 4 years. So as you can see, electronic here AINT like the UK, but I freakin wish it was.

Trance is not big among ppl who are still into the hip hop scene. It seems from high school ppl branch out from liking popular music to either Trance or Hip Hop. The only hip hop i would spin is underground stuff with fat beats. Other than that, forget POP Hip hop.

Damn Cali ppl.

when i was playing in one of the side rooms in a club here there was many times that i was playing and right in the middle of the mix some drunk wnnabe thug would walk up and start tuggin on my arm
"dude, you got any nelly"
i start laughing "no, i don't play hip hop, but they're playing it in the main room, you can just walk through those doors and it'll probably be on in like 2 seconds"
