I was going to take the piss but then I realised I wouldn't be able to point it out either.

Actually I think I'd find it coz I know the shape of the landmass but in all honesty I couldn't imediatly put my finger on it from memory.

That's shocking.

heh..Take at look at the Gross national Import and export of the world economies, (meaning how much each country sells and buys product)....The vatican is not even a country..lol

The only country that comes close to the GOP of America is china and/or Japan, and still America's Stock market and Import/Export figures almost double that of Japan and china.

The Vatican..lol

uhm, Switzerland is the richest country in the world

period

Ckerr812: you have to look at income vs. prices of products. Then you know what people can buy with the same amount of money and then you know what the richest country is. America is very expensive, way more expensive then Switzerland, and the people who live there make a lot of money.

I know this because this was in the paper a few weeks ago, The Netherlands used to be in 3rd place, but they dropped to the 7th place. I don't know how much the US was, but they where high up there, together with Canada

Yeap, thats what everyone thinks, but the USA brings smart brains from other countries ... go to sylicon valley, and tell me how many are really americans, and then tell me how many are from other country, you will see for yourelf. The same goes for the rest of other companies. Ford, GMC, and all the automovile industry was in crisis for the lack of engineers ( smart ).. so they were giving free visas for engineers from other countries to come , work there and stay.

Just realize, around here, foreign is scary. People don't like change, new cultures, new ways of life. It interrupts the comfort zone they live by everyday.

I can't look down upon those that have never had the oppurtunity to learn/visit/explore foreign lands, but I will look down upon those, that never had the desire to.

Its just plain shallow, with a lack of desire, not exactly a sign of bad education. Anyone can pick up a map if they really want to.

If you don't want to learn/visit foreign lands, so be it, but atleast fucking be able to point out on a map the country that has threatened your "zombie lifestyle", not to mention the country YOUR nation is/was at war with.

not knowing nor carng about the rest of the world, means - IGNORANCE, and ignorance is one of the worst things a person could have. I live in America, but been living here for 5 years. This country is the country of opportunities, part of my family is american, but thank god they stand out :-). If you didnt know, AMERICA depends on the rest of the world, and if americans themself careless about the outside cultures, then its a scary thing to know whats coming for the future , although there will be the LOGICAL person that will at least know and be educated enough. but still, the people are the ones that vote, and to vote they need knowledge of who, why, what, when questions about that person.
So I think its just wrong for them to be ass ignorant, just cause they dont need to .. mmmmm

lol.. Due to the nature of the thread, I take this reply as a token of sarcasm... Cause if it is not, what's the point of showing one's ignorance and sinking even lower?

Speaking of it, it's not only America that is the problem.. You will notice that according to the poll, even in such european countries as France the average correct response rate doesn't go beyong 70... The people in general (but more so in US) seem to be illiterate politically and geographically, and it is sad... But anyway..

As for those who said America is running many high-tech enterprises requiring some major brain: yes, it is true... There are very intelligent and respectable americans, but they are hardly a majority... Go to any of those companies you mentioned (Intel, IBM, whatever), and you will notice that about 75% of their effective personel are people from East and Middle East... USA is known for what is called "brain gathering", and specialists from other countries (which don't suffer american syndrome) are willingly getting here to work... The funny part is that at my university, from 40 people I know who are making their M.Sc comp sciences, only 6 are whire, of which 1 is Russian, and 1 is Italian, others being locals... I know it's sad, but that's how things are ;(

Blik, I am not talking about income per person, or standard of living. New york State alone has more people then all of switzerland...so what governement do you think recieves more money in taxes and such :P

Switzerland has 7340604
America has 276768280

I quote from the National Gepgraphical Database:
The US has the most powerful, diverse, and technologically advanced economy in the world, with a per capita GDP of $31,500, the largest among major industrial nations.

Standard of living and income per person is a different story, in that case my Country Canada would be third in the world, behind Sweden and the swiss.
