I like to start set out with something epic in the beginnin of the tune...

ex: - Flutlicht - Icarus (Daedalus Mix)

so that 1st tune is a banger but not over the top, so that I can build up so that by the 4th to 5th song is exploding....

i say if it's your first time. take a variety of records, the more the marrier. this way you can always cover your ass no matter what.
and since it's the first time you spin get a set prepared of exactly what you are going to spin, i know it's kind of cheating, but it will give you more confidence, later when you are more confident you can improvise and go with the flow.

but yeah, just like a few people mentioned, it all depends on the dj before and after you. I mean if you are just doing the warm-up. you don't wanna bang out all the best tunes. the people that are organizing the party will never ask you to come back, at least not very likely. you have to make yourself stand out make yourself individual. make your set individual, try to play less know records that you love.

if you are playing as a headliner, which I doubt, but you never know. than you have the freedom to play what ever you want.

hope this helps...

Thumbs up

I agree with the other guys.
I currently use alot Armins remix of "Seven Cities" cause of the great (and long) intro. Solarcoaster is a great tune two but the Intro is too short for my taste. Also liked to use Deep Sea but that has way too much energy .
mhhh and what do you do for the outro? Do you use outros or do you just let the last song play out? Taucher - Pictures of a Gallary(marc n ace mix) is great for that.

Solarcoaster is an amazing track, but that's why I wouldn't start with it. That's just too good to spin right away. You've gotta drop that at the peak of your set. Then take the energy up from there. In my opinion I'd start off with something like James Holden-Nothing. This is another amazing track, but it builds up so nicely and it's just so perfect to get things started. That's just my opinion tho.

Afterburn - Fratty Boy is perfect for a epic/uplifting set

or I also like Joker Jam - Innocence... a nice little intro and a nice mellow track to get the ball rolling

I always start my sets off with tracks that usually don't have a heavy beat in the beginning. Examples:
Neurotic Jock - Therepy (original mix)
HERNAN CATTANEO - Deeper Layers
etc...
